New ECTA 1 mile drag record of 201.82mph!!!

The standing mile record for the East Coast Timing Association (ECTA) was set by Winston Churchill at 201.82 mph through the mufflers and 22 gallons of gas on board. Previous record was mid 170's. Record was set May 20, 2006 in Maxton, NC.

This was posted on another board a while ago (and I lost track of the thread and couldn't manage to locate it) and I fell in love with the car (though I already wanted a C4) and am really starting to think I need one of these.

More info is here:

Yeah, I remember seeing that post a while ago. He hits some impressive speeds at Summit Point and Watkins Glen as well!

I've always liked C4's, but I really like the look of that one and you can get an L98/6 speed combo (until '91 I think). That's probably what I'd be looking for as a toy. I really do like that car.

The L98/ZF 6 speed combo was avaliable from 89 to 91. The new interior was introduced in 90, replacing the 'Star Wars' dash. The updated body style from the ZR1 was added in 91.

I think 92 got the smoothed out roll around corner markers.

And an LT1, I'll pass. I want an old fashioned small block. I'm guessing I would buy a 91 only, if I ever buy one...and I just might one of these days.

I was thinking that was the case, but I didn't sell them until '95 and I am getting rusty on my old Corvette information. I know they fixed the rear suspension geometry in 1988, but I'm rusty on the rest.

Wouldn't mind a 90/91 model, since I could put my 406 Gen I SBC into it rather easily (bolt-in wise, some other mods would be required).

Depending on what you wanted to do with the car, you could pick up one of these pretty cheaply! ITE on the cheap, anyone? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Don't know if you have seen the in car video of 199mph at maxton.

http://www.ls1speed.com/movies/intmd8_199.wmv

Watch the knose come down after letting off the loud pedal. The LT1 was silent and deadly. One would never know of the disney land ride.

I came 1 inch from trading my 2002 Z28 for an LT1 vette with sole purpose of fixing little stuff and building a bbc for it.

Anyone think I could swap the LS1 6 speed into my mini cooper (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/drink.gif) ?

That looks a lot like Jim Kritzler's BSP Ligenfelter C4:

Car looks and sounds great. It is even more of a hoot to drive. :-)

I don't dislike LT1's, I dislike Optispark and the limited production of them. And, standard L98 parts/SB Chevy parts cost almost nothing. Heads, cams, etc, it's all cheaper for the old stuff and they make good power (and I can tear them down in my sleep).

Kevin,

You and I will be talking in the future I am sure. I have that old '85Z that has the fresh 350 HO crate in it. That engine is coming out soon and I will need some advice to go to the wild side with it.

Totally agree, and what's even more impressive is that a big block chevy with aluminum heads is very near the weight of an all iron sbc. An old school cadillac 500 weights in the same as an all iron sbc (horribly wide though). Only bad thing is the cost of building a Cad = $. Not to mention a Cadillac will crunch stock rockers like my 6 year ole eats fries.

Andy,

Just say the word and I'll gladly help you build something as evil as you want it to be. We've put a few of them together over the years and I'm sure we can get you the power you want.
