i have a 96 formula with 13" street tires and there is alot of wheelhop, i really wanna buy the lakewood action lift bars. i just want to know if anyone uses them and if so how good are they.

I had bad wheel hop and I chased it around for a long time. Was the LCA bushings and they were in decent shape to the eye. I installed poly bushings but a lot of guys on here will tell you they suck. I think MOOG may make a solid rubber bushing that will get rid of it, too.

Under acceleration or braking? It could be anything really, suspension setup, to much rear brake bias, driving style................ It goes on and on. |

They have a reputation for breaking, so I'd pass on them.
Are you getting hop under acceleration or braking? Those are two different things. Is this at a drag strip or on an autocross course, or just street use, etc? More information will help us help you. |

Phil has had the only review that i have gotten in three days of asking on five different forums. i guess that will tell you something. no one uses them. few people do, and most of those people don't do anything with the car and those parts and just bling at that point. like trackbird said, they tend to break the tab off that locates them to the shock mount, and they are essentially a mini ladder bar. the purpose is for drag racing, but they do have a very limited range of adjustment and are less effective then a properly setup stock style torque arm suspension. I did pickup a set long ago when i first got my car, simply because i knew little and they looked cool. I didnt even know, and the instructions didnt tell you that they eliminate the torque arm. So i was using them and a torque arm and the rear suspension had only a bout 2" total travel before things started to bind. Managed to sell them and got some of my money back. So what have you done to your suspension? is it stock? this could be a problem caused by a handful of things |

I have been racing my trans am for years, and I can tell you a few things, but ultimately you need to get a bunch of things in order. 1) Get a Unbalanced Engineering Torque Arm 2) Check pinion angles 3) Get LCA's and LCA relocation brackets (with rod ends) don't mess with poly bushings 4) Get good shocks (front & rear) valved to your spring rates (adjustables are good, but still need to be valved to spring rates) 5) Check bushings - old ones will also contribute to them. also call Alan Blaine of Blaine Fabrication, or Jason at Unbalanced Engineering. Between those 2 guru's I'm pretty sure you will have no more axle tramp/wheel hop again. It worked for me :-) |

So are the tires 13" tall or wide?

they are 13' wide. and every thing under there is stock. plus the car was lowerd. i know now that that is my main problem. im sure i can fix it with all the relocation setups, and build some solid LCAs in the shop. but those lift bars are off of my mind now anyway. thanks for all the input.
