I have a customer with a 87 C4 Vette and he's getting a new set of C5 Z06 wheels. He wanted to know if I was interested in purchasing or selling his current salad shooters as he doesn't have much room in his garage. I have yet to see them, but from he has told me they are in good condition (I was probably gonna polish them) and have 3 tires with 90% or so tread left and one with about 60 - 70% left.

What kind of price range should I be looking at?

Thanks (admin's, if you don't think this belongs here, or at all on this site, please feel free to delete),

If those are the 16" (and I think they are), you'll probably have to give them away. Stock 16's (C4/Camaro/Firebird) are about worthless these days. I sold my stock 2002 Z28 wheels for $90. I bought a set of 1996 C4 "Sawblades" (17x9.5) for about $200. So, I'm guessing somewhere in between.

Are these the ones that look similar to Pontiac GTA wheels?

the salad shooter rims typically refer to the 17in rims that came out in 88. so he must have had them retrofitted onto the 87 which is no big deal. we had an 87 with those rims on it and many others do too all you need is an adapter/spacer

if he has the center caps and the bolt with the keys to get the covers off the rims are worth a decent amount. if they do not have a cover they are not the first salad shooters. this is good as the later ones go up in value and the 90s are a one year only rim and worth the most.

is the rim flat or is it recessed were the lugs are? flat without a cover are the 91-96 with the painted ones being 91-92 or 93. the polished flat salad shooters are 94-96. the flat with cover over the lug nuts are 88-89 only. the recessed in the middle with expossed lug nuts are 90s

oh and measure the width all the rims should be wider in the back than front unless you happen to have the same at all four rims. this is a good thing if the fronts are 275 tired. this was only on certain suspended cars like the Z07.

ok corvette history off

Sorry, there was a miscommunication between I and the customer. It's a 96, but they're not the typical 5 spoke so I guess they would be the salad shooters from those years.

If they're these ones

We had a set that we ended up giving away. Although they did have a bit of road rash.

Rob,

Are all four 17x9.5? If they're a set of two 8.5s and two 9.5s and he's willing to split them up, I might take the pair of 9.5s only. (I have another 9.5-inch pair sitting around that I'm going to use now.) Shoot me a PM if you'd like.

Thanks,

-John

Sorry John, I already told the customer that there really wasn't a market for the rims. He may bring them in anyway, if he does, I'll see what he wants to do.
