Currious how some of you guys came up with your race number. I was always "12" throughout all the sports I played when I was little (baseball/basketball/hockey). Whats the story behind yours?

"35"
Just like the look of it on a car. Had it for 10 years....it is also easier to get than the typical standby's...25...55....77....88....99....etc. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) |

My first number was 29, which was my age at the time.
Since then I have used a bunch of numbers, and really do not care what I use. |

I use to use 70 on my 2nd gen because it was a 1970, I use 74 now because no one has it except Lonnie (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) AND it looked good on the car. As long as I can use some combination of 1 4 7 I'm great!

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) It's a literary reference (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) However, before picking a number I looked at results from several autocrosses in the two regions I usually compete in, and made a list of what number were already in common use. There is one guy in a nearby region who uses the same number, also in ESP, but we rarely run the same events. I also carry some extra sixes (or nines), so in case of a conflict I have lot's of other choices that I can make from just a few magnetic numbers. |

When I bought my car it had the number 55 on it. Being cheap, and since the previous owner wanted to use 55 in his new car, I just peeled off one of the 5s!

#29 is one of my numbers when I play roulette. Ryan Flaherty was #17 (my second-most lucky number) when I got into AI, and #32 is Jerry Rice, and I figured #13 (my number one lucky number, go figure) was bad on a potential fire or pain hazard (aka racecar), so I stuck with #29. I was also 29 years old when I raced last year but I was 28 when I started so that doesn't matter I guess. Maybe it's always one less than 30 yrs old?
But seriously, it was roulette for me. Christine |

#8 - strangely enough for the same reason as Rob (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Also - makes really easy to add/remove tape to create 2,3,4,5,6,9 or the typical 18/81 etc. |

76, my birth year, was too common, so I just dropped the first digit off my Firehawk build # and got 54. Not very interesting, nor is it glamorous, but no one else is ever 54, so it works.

My first event ever I was given a number, and was able to keep the same each successive event. The week after that first event I was assigned a parking sticker at work - both number 45.
Had it ever since. Haven't seen many 45's around, so I put semi permanent vinyl numbers on the doors - meets the "new" rule. If I run into another 45FS, I may be in trouble (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) May need to make a small mod to the class letters this year, though... |

3 has always been my lucky number.
No reference to Dale E. whatsoever. Also is a easy number to convert to another if needed. |

30
Our local independent autocross group run in numeric order regardless of class. After registration, they break the drivers up into equal groups of cars for the run/work assignments. After my first event (where I co-drove my dad's car and my number was decided for me), I decided that I wanted to be at the end of the first run group or at the beginning of the second run group. Since #30 would fulfill this, I picked it and it has just stuck with me. |

It was the year my ex was born. Trying to change it to my birth year "64", but it seems taken. Maybe "69" (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

I chose 99 for economical reasons. I can use the following numbers with the two magnets.
6, 9, 66, 99, 69, 96 I can also turn the 6 and 9 horizontal and make an infinity symbol with them too, giving me an infinite ammount of useable numbers. |

After trying to find any one of nearly a dozen numbers that have some personal significance available and coming up empty . . .
so I grabbed a coin at random from my pocket, which happened to be an '85 quarter . . . Norm #85 CP |

When I originally picked my Football practice jersey it was #74. So I went with that as my game jersey number. After the first year, I was recognized by that number. So I never changed. My first autox was that same number and has been the same ever since. |

#34 because that was my number playing hockey. I chose that number for hockey, 'cause my first two choices (#21 and #9) were taken. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Plus, 3 and 4 add up to good 'ol lucky 7. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Karen ps. Lonnie, I now have my own login ID. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |
