From the Atlanta Pro Regatta last year. Karen seems to like this one for some reason. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant.gif)

I'll try and dig up some more when I get home.

I'll just add that I think Pat's insane for doing this, especially for this price. If I had $4k handy I'd buy the damn thing. I've known the car for a while as it previously belonged to the guy who bought my '91 1LE. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Buy this car if you are at all interested in a 3rd gen.

Maybe I'll measure it tonight with a micrometer after I'm done attempting to JB Weld the hairline crack in the SE-R transmission. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I've kind of already replaced it (see avatar (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ). The Sentra may end up with close to the same whp as the Firebird had with the 305 while still being N/A. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

But if I sell the Firebird, I'll be down to just the SE-R so I may get a truck for towing since I still have my trailer.

Let's see if I can avoid the red X's.

Pic from previous owner ... from the rear quarter panels forward it was rattle-can white:

Early in '03 at VMP just after it was painted (note: these are the stock rims that are on the car now):

It's fine as a street car. The springs aren't much stiffer than stock (and I think a little softer in the rear). I was going to experiment with a little bit stiffer springs in front.

It has the dual cats (which I replaced a couple years ago), AIR tubes, EGR, etc so it has all the emissions stuff intact.

I didn't get around to dynoing it with the new long block. It did make 209 whp and 275 wtq with the 305. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I cant buy the car since My wife will not allow me to have two cars to take up my time, but I was wondering about your front springs. I have the ground control set up with 750# front sprins (8") and I am having a bit of trouble with the car being too low for local driving. What length are your front springs? I need to have Sam get me some new ones for next season.

I tried, but the 3rd gens are a bit harder to drive than even the 4th gens... It drove really good, I just screwed up once or twice in the heavy braking zones on a couple of my runs. Not too hard to just jump into and drive though. Thanks for the ride.

I was close to Pat... about 2 tenths or so until his last run... then he put some time on me (7 tenths?)
But like I said, I screwed up in the heavy braking zones due to unfamiliarity with the car. Whoever buys the car should be able to get used to it with some seat time. I've just never driven a 3rd gen before and never had to worry about slowing down from speed without the aid of ABS.

One more time before I part it out and sell the car without most of the suspension goodies (as in no weight jacker kit, T2R ... stock torque arm, panhard bar re-installed). If the car's not gone by this weekend, the stuff's coming off. I figure an easy $1,500 worth of parts can be sold, and I can still unload the car for more than $2K.

I could write a check for it right now, but I would likely wind up divorced.

I'm trying to work out what/how long it would take me to gather cash through alternate means (play money funds, selling off some items I don't need, etc). I don't think I'm going to be fast enough for you (but I might be interested in discussing it).

Don't ask me why I waited this long to decide that I should buy this car. But I'm still thinking of parting with my 4th gen and buying this, installing the AC and driving it daily for a while. That would get rid of my car payment and allow me to focus on land and a new house (one of the next plans on the list).

Still, I would love to say yes to buying it, but I'm not quite there yet on the cash. How's the floor in her, rust-wise?

I'm at least interested in the rear end depending on price.

Like I said, if it was the end of the summer. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

No rust problems at all. Maybe light surface rust that could be sanded away by hand. Seriously, the only major rust issue is the T-top pilar, and that's a bolt-in piece. I've never considered rust an issue on this car.

Would you take a thousand bucks and my Caprice wagon? I'll bring you the wagon and drive the Firebird home. Alternately, find somebody to buy my wagon for anything about $2k and we have a deal.

Is it an LT1 wagon? I've always kinda wanted one, especially if it has wood paneling. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Other than that, I'm not looking for trades right now. Also keep in mind that much of the stuff has already been sold (weight jackers went out yesterday, panhard bar and STB were sold, T2R is out of the car and will be in the mail shortly, had someone interested in the headers) so it will be much closer to stock. About the only thing it will be is a clean Firebird with a 350 and T5.

(I've updated the add to what's currently on the car.)

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Pat

I've seen the wagon, it's an LT1 "woody" wagon, that is correct. (Superbeetle was my "stand-in" co-driver for the last two events of last year).

What kind of condition is it in? Rust, paint, mileage, etc, etc. If Superbeet has any current pics, that'd be great (e-mail is patred48 "at" verizon.net). I've seriously considered an LT1 Caprice/Roadmaster wagon or light duty truck once the Firebird is gone.

Honestly, it's like a 50,000-ish (50 and change?) wagon bought from a little old lady (as I remember). It is in very good shape from what I've seen.

Hi patred,

Kevin and Neil probably remember me buying the car. At that point it was represented to me as an LT1 Caprice. It is not; the VIN indicates it is a 205hp L05 350 with four-speed automatic. One deceased owner prior to me. It's in sound shape and I have driven it on a couple multi-hundred-mile jaunts. At the moment it has 53,600 miles. New brake master cylinder, serpentine belt, transmission flush/fill, PCV valve. It's a light oil leaker - about a 2-inch circle any time it sits for a while - and needs an A/C recharge. Cruise works, power seats work, autodim mirror works.

As it sits, it is probably worth $3-4K. I could eBay it but I am leaving for One Lap of America, followed by a tour of Germany, and I wouldn't be able to collect any cash until mid-May. If you think you want to make a deal, let me know and we can take care of it Wednesday/Thursday. Thanks!

Updated price. Most of the suspension is stock now except for some bushings here and there. Has an Auburn differential that I used to win F-Stock at the Northeast Divisional last year. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotflmao.gif)

Can somebody lock this thread, please? Seriously. If I get one more "I'm really interested" IM/e-mail/phone call from here from somebody who just wants to waste my time, I'm going to just drive the car off a cliff and collect the insurance.

I think Sam was kinda disappointed he didn't end up with the car, but he's still coming out a winner in the deal. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Yeah. I think he got an order already. :-)

We're gonna have to find the themesong to KnightRider to play on the PA when the car is at the line though...

Who bought it?

I was really going to take it, but I decided to spend more for a local car that has an engine in it that I built for myself. I wanted my engine back, and the 92Z hardtop is a nice wrapper. Glad you found a home for it Pat.

A local guy bought it. He had always been a Neon/Honda/MR2 kind of a guy. A couple of years back, he co-drove my old LS1 F-Stock Camaro and I know that he has driven Sam S.'s ESP car as well. V8, rwd can be very addictive.
...I can still remember my old LS1 car going through (and I mean through) the course timing lights when he tried it. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif)

Yep, that was me. Keith tried very hard to lure me to the "dark side" years ago with the FS co-drive (up until then, I had a decently prepped STS Civic SI [before they were cool (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ] and a half-built EP CRX. I don't think I actually took the lights out that day with the Camaro, but I was pretty close. Apparently, the throttle in those cars isn't quite the on-off switch that it was in the STS car.

The "new to me" car will be an ESP ride, mostly for local events until I finish the "new" EP CRX. I've got several items on order with Sam already, so the incoming parts list is: T2R (backorder for 4 weeks..ugh), "Wonder bar" steering brace, Hawk pads at all corners, adjustable panhard bar, and Ground Control weightjackers/coilover kit. I've already spent more than the car was listed at with all of the old parts still on it. Even so, I still think the car was a pretty good deal, just based on the rebuilt L98 matched to a T5.

Next up is wheels. I've searched the site some, but I'll add a post dedicated to that hunt.

Oh yeah...the car wasn't aligned after pulling the previous spring/weightjacker combo off, so the car is a handful at about 45 mph or so on the seriously crowned roads in my area. It'll stay mostly parked until I can get the new springs back on and get an alignment.

Anyone have a spare Knight Rider front light bar for sale? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If you're interested, Ricky, if the GC weight jackers you ordered are on back order, the F-Body shop near me (FBodyCentral.com) has a new weight jacker kit on the shelf for $250. Not sure what springs are with it -- the fronts are blue with no markings but look pretty stout and the rears have no markings but look almost exactly like the rear springs I got with my weight jacker kit. Again, everything is brand new and shiny and has never been on a car. I could get the measurements on the springs since I'm going back up there in the next day or two.

Good purchase, Rick. Looking forward to seeing you and it at some events this year. Always good to have more competitors in ESP.
