The green car got caught in a wicked storm tonight, including some big hail. I was on the highway at the time. The car is dirty and was wet, so I am not sure how much damage was done, but there is definitely two big dings in the hood, and one or more on each quarter panel. Freaking sucks, but at least no glass was broken. I guess this will make it that much easier to make a CMC2 car out of it...

Insurance?

I never would have thought of claiming hail damage, but a few years ago while we were briefly living in MN, there was a nasty hail storm effecting most of the Minneapolis/St Paul area, and afterwards there was a huge rash of hail damage claims on car and home insurances ... adjusters were showing up with company checkbooks and writing checks on the spot ... a close friend got a $4500 check for hail damage to her '65 Mustang (she bought the car for $3800 6 months earlier) and we were able to push all the obvious dings back out with a thumb from the backside of the panels. She banked the check ... and the nice thing is hail damage is covered under your comprehensive policy, which doesn't count against you: a comp claim won't raise your rates!

Possibly a unique situation. The local mind set was so bad that, after we sold our house over a year later, the buyers filed a claim against OUR insurance company for damage to the roof during that storm (there wasn't any) and last we heard, the company was actually considering the claim.

It has full coverage, with a $500 deductible. Not sure if I will claim it or not.

My black truck got it last nite too..
Headed to the adjuster today. Statefarm.

Bev's Passat got it last year. They gave $900 for paintless dent repair which is where we took it.
Flawless job.

My old '93 Sentra SE-R had some serious hail damage about 8-10 years ago. Cheap Japanese sheet metal + hail = hood and most of the roof looked like a golf ball. I took it to a paintless dent removal place and $300 later (again, 8-10 years ago), it looked nearly flawless. If you looked at the hood or roof in the right light at the right angle, you could see a couple small imperfections in the paint but only if you were looking for it.

Insurance should cover it if you have comprehensive coverage. I left my green car out in hail one time because the garage where I live was too narrow for me to feel comfortable pulling the car inside (and if the boyfriend came home, he'd likely want to put his car in there anyway (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ). Anyway, I opted to leave the car outside, knowing that hail damage was covered, while me tearing a side mirror off trying to put the car in or out of the garage was not.

Man, that sux! I remember getting caught in a hailstorm driving our new 2500HD home from work. I was driving it because I was the only one in the family who could come close to following the break-in recommendations. It was that new.

It made an awful racket, as I remember, and I got lucky and could pull over under an overpass and let it pass. I was first under the overpass to pull over. By the time the hail quit, there was a line behind me. ;-)

Luckily, it was pea-sized or smaller, so no apparent damage. It was really, really loud, though.

Good luck with the insurance, and the repair. You don't want the dimples on the roof, they provide lift!

Comp coverage with low or zero deductible is not very expensive, and there is no negative on your policy for claims. I'd file the claim - you paid the premiums for it.

I drove my brand new 93 Z28 thru a dust devil somewhere in AZ, and State Farm wrote me a check for $3800 (all painted surfaces, windshield, all lights and lenses) with no expectation that I would actually fix the damage, and I traded the car in on a new one a month later.

I would also recommend claiming it.

Back around '98 I had a '89 Firebird that I had paid $4000 for about a year earlier. We had a big hailstorm with most of the balls around golf ball size. My Firebird was parked outside while I was at work and when the storm was over and we all came out to look for damage, the whole top of my car had multiple dents in it. State Farm wrote me a check for $3500. I didn't fix it, and sold it to the dealer where I found my '94 Firebird for $2000.

That is the only time I've made a profit on a car.

Yes, it was sad to se a nice looking '98 now having hail damage; but at least the damage was minimal and you didn't get hurt ~ considering that a lot of the hail was larger than a silver dollar.
I too would file a claim, as they can't hold that against you (up your rates) ~ somehing to the effect of being a weather related incident

.........and no damage to those "pimp daddy" etched windows ! ! (sorry, I could resist) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)
