Reading your description is what concerned me enough to ask for more. Was there any deformation of the stock bracket, or did the extension just come off? Is the upper PHR brace still stock? Was there a bolt and spacer through what was formerly the bottom hole of the stock bracket? Was the bracket fully welded all the way around the perimeter? Was there just not enough weld penetration? I keep kicking around thoughts of trying to improve on the stock upper brace with something that connects to the bottom stock hole or maybe both.

I keep kicking around thoughts of trying to improve on the stock upper brace with something that connects to the bottom stock hole or maybe both. I didn't get a good look at the back side of the weld (axle side). When I really took a closer look, it was on the second level of a car hauler and the tail was hanging off the back (Mitch and I were standing under it). It appears that the sheetmetal tore at the dog-leg (where it kinks down to the vertical section). I'm guessing it will need to be plated on both sides, permiter welded and rosetted in a few other locations to make it solid. I'm sure this failure was caused by the first failure, and I have no way of knowing what exactly caused the first failure. So, I'm not much help there. As I remember, the upper PHB brace is a stock part. |
