I'm kinda on the other side of this discussion, but I'll give my experience.

My father and I built up a 90 C1500 just before I got my license. We rebuilt the small block, lowered it, nice wheels, had it painted, etc and I drove it in high school. My sister drove my father's 93 XJ6 Jag after he had it for a few years. I later drove that a year in college. Both it and the truck were great first cars. Then I bought a third gen with the money from selling the Jag.

About a month ago I was in a wreck with the third gen a month after my parents had it painted as a college graduation present. I ended up getting an insurance check and selling the car to a guy who is fixing it up with his son...lucky kid! My mother is a little sad I sold it, but she didn't tell me that until afterwards...

Now I have a 96 bmw 318ti that is going to be my new auto-x/dd car.
