I have put this on hold for a couple of years but the time is now right resurrect the project and get this bit of American racing history back together as a proper car the way it was built. Here is a link to my Facebook album please feel free to comment or advise. I would like to get this finished by next spring and see if I can revive that invite I had to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, may even try to get one of the original pilots from the 70's behind the wheel. I will adventually need some NASCAR style Goodyear Slicks but a long way off from that just yet.

I don't intend to race the car and in fact as you can see I have stripped off the fibreglass rear quarters and big rear spoiler and have a doner 2nd gen which I am going to remove the rear end from and stitch it to the original roof so I will be actually be adding weight to the car. I will aslo run it as they did with steel bonnet and boot and glass windshields back and front which will up the weight. I will build a replica 400 bhp engine for her, I already have the block, heads, full original Weaver drysump equipment including all lines and Mooneyes tank of the orginal style and pan. It has the Ford 9inch axle (naughty GM) Lincon uprights and Ford steering bix (tut, tut) and I have 97% of all the parts I need to complete including no less than 6 front wings I came across and a front spoiler from the original mould in the States. I will use it for a few trackdays and displays etc.

here is the link you may need a Facebook account to peruse it. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2...1629&type=1

That and knowing where to put arms and legs really helps. From practice, I know I can get out of our LeMons truck w/o removing the wheel, but I _do_ practice pulling the wheel, too, it's just more civilized that way. Our doors do open, but the emergency egress test during tech I usually do climbing out of the window. The tech crew usually looks at me like I've hatched out of some green egg, and say 'that's one way to do it.' I'm guessing they were expecting the door to fly open, or something.

We've had to cover the holes in the cowl the wiper motor used to go, even after we pointed out that it went to the cowl, and not inside the vehicle. The things you do to pass tech.....

Alternatively, you can put the mooneyes decal on the back of the fuel cell so your competition has something to look at. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif)

Yeah thats one way around I guess. I bought some of those mobile wheeled axle stands and got her up on those last night, wow they are good I wish I bought them years ago I can push it around the workshop with ease now even after I have stripped the rear axle out and front steering and suspension. Blimey there is some work gone into that Ford 9" I think in fact I am sure it has a detroit locker in it as it turn freely till I turned it sharply then it locked in. It has real hefty looking fully floating hubs, this thing is truely a work of art. The chassis is one of Banjo Matthews finest. All the double Monroe shockers seem to be Ok with no leaks. Does anyone know if Airheart stuff is still available as I would like to replace all the seals on the calipers and master cylinders. I will stick some more pictures up later of progress. Won't do much this weekend as end of season meeting and I am taking two cars for the 1st time ever so we can see which is fastest, the 2nd or the 3rd gen!
