Well, it looks pretty certain on a 2007 Camaro, but there won't be a Firebird to go along with it. The platform will be the new Zeta platform and will be shared by the Buick Velite, Camaro and GTO. |

QUOTE (00 Trans Ram @ Jun 22 2004, 11:14 AM) You want to hear some very eye-opening comparisons with our cars? As long as a Lincoln Mark VIII; Wider than a Suburban; 200 lbs lighter than a Jeep Grand Cherokee. (Measurements based on my parent's cars.) A Lincoln Mk VIII is 207.3” long. A 4th gen Camaro is 14” shorter. A Chevy Suburban is 79” wide. A 4th gen Camaro is just over 74” wide. The current Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 liter engine weighs 4860 lbs. My 1994 Z28 weighs 3438 with a full tank; over 1400 lbs less. And even though the GTO is much heavier than I would like, it is still about 300 lbs lighter, over 17” shorter, over 5” narrower than a ’73 GTO, the last year the GTO was built on the A-body platform. The current GTO wheelbase is also shorter than any of the A-body wheelbases. It sure would be nice if the new platform would allow them to get the GTO and Camaro under 3500 lbs. Or maybe just a lightweight 1LE type Camaro. The 4th gen Z28's wheelbase is 7" shorter than the 1st gen's, and the 2002 Z coupe weighs about 200 lbs less than a 1970 Z28. |
