You see, I'm fitting my rims on my car and I've found that I need less than 1/8 of an inch to get them to clear the calipers. Five good sized flat washers ( one for each lug) would easily give me the clearance I need. Is this a really bad idea, dangerous, whatever?

I'm not fussy about either of those scenarios. With washers, I at least get a nice firm fit over the center hub. Is the concern that the washers will crush? In any case, I surely don't want to go as high as 1/4 inch and then lose almost all connection to the center hub, because that idea makes me very uneasy. So perhaps I should get a 3/32 steel spacer made up? Is mild steel adequate for this purpose? |
