I'm building a 67 RS that I want to use for local auto-x and street use. My guess is that it will be classed CP because of all the modifications to it. Just curious if anyone else is running a First Gen or if there are any pictures out there?

I don't know that competitive CP and street use go together.

I believe the car shown on the home page is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkDMH2NuY3M

I saw it in Houston at an SCCA event several years ago and Todd Farris was driving it; it's NOT street legal and about the only 69 Camaro DNA left is the body. The A&M sports car club may be able to help you more.

Good luck.

Nice Pics, I've seen some of those cars before in various mags. Thanks! I don't really care if I'm competitive or not, besides there is only one other local CP car here in these parts... I just wanna go have fun. I do want a car that I can also drive on the street with a tire swap.

THAT car is awesome!! Yeah, not a lot of 1st Gen bits left, other than the roofpanel and part of the trunk. The running gear, IIRC is a lot of left over Busch-class stuff after they quit running 5.0L engines. Very-well built car, sounded wicked and ran like stink. It's living on the west coast now, I believe, in an effort to beat Mikey Mier's Mustangs. It was painted all 'stealth low-gloss black' when Todd drove it at that Tour.

More pics for you. I'm pretty sure this one belongs to a west coast CMCer, but I may be confusing my red '69s. There are a couple that show up at Thunderhill fairly regularly.

You're thinking of this one, John - it will be back on track soon, updates in progress:

Here's a pic I shot at one of the first Northern California Racing club events. The gentleman on the left eventually became my neighbor who owns a number of interesting cars. He has some very nice first gens, a gray one he takes on the power tour that has around 750hp, and a ZL1 amongst others. He has a really interesting first gen project going now that is top secret, I'll let you know more details as he lets me!

There is a local guy that runs a 1st gen Camaro in CP, Bob Rebman (his wife, Chris drives it too). People call the car the "Rainbow Camaro." This is why at utahscca I call my car the "Red Camaro" and Cal's car the "Great White SS." If you poke around http://www.utahscca.com you can find some links to pics. I'll post up if I find some. Unfortunately his car was down most or all of last season with engine trouble, hopefully he'll be ready for 2008.

While his car is not street legal, there are other cars that run the class that are street legal and even daily drivers.

It's too bad we don't get more of the 1st and 2nd gen guys on this forum.

I'd love to have one some day, but my POS is big of enough of a money pit. But the good thing about the old ones is that they MIGHT be worth close to what you have into them, rather than about 20%.

Sweet Pics guys! Mine's gonna resemble the primer 67 RS without the LSx engine. I'm running an old school Destroked 400 with a super T10 4 speed. I'm finishing up my front subframe that holds C5 corvette suspension and the rear is done with a complete C4 IRS. I'll be running Z06 wheels 17's front and 18's out back. I hope to put the car on the ground this weekend and make sure it rolls in a straight line!

minitubbed? the 275/40/17 (IIRC) on 17 X 9.5 wheels rub on the passenger side read inner wheel well in my 69.

383 stroker, Richmond 6-speed, Martz Chassis subframe; i'll have to look for a picture. I don't think it's that nice but it's fun to drive in when the weather's nice... except for the amount of super unleaded it consumes.

Yep, I put DSE Minitubs in the rear so I can run 315's and I"m going to have to massage the front inner fenders for the vette a arms anyway, I'll be sure to check for rubs, Got a pic of where it rubs?

About once a year I see a 1st gen on street tires here, but I've never seen one that was "serious". There are several well-prepared and well-driven 2nd gens that show up at neighboring regions sometimes.

Here is my 68. Its the silver one.

http://touring-classics.com/Testvehicles.htm

I ran it one weekend in HPDE with NASA at MSR Cresson. Realized I didn't want to mess it up but also got hooked on road racing and now am running an 02 SS in CMC2. It did okay on the track. Really needed better seats and harnesses but I still had a blast. It runs mid 12's in the quarter as well.

Bryan,
Cool, I looked at your kits a while back before I decided to go with C5 hubs et all... I'm also hooked, I'm running a '00 WS6 locally. I'm doing a HPDE in it at VIR next month, it'll be my first.
