Wonder if any of this stuff will be spending time in the wind tunnel. The bigger brakes look nice too.

It looks tall as well, and the wheels/tires might be too big making it look fatter. I would lower it and put "normal" size wheel tires on there. |

LOL, I wonder what GM would consider "normal" sized wheels and tires to be? Gangsta 20"s? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Hopefully no larger than 17", with maybe (MAYBE) an 18" upgrade. And maybe GM will install competent brakes as well. Nothing like big wheels with puny brakes... |

I think it looks great! Although some of the features aren't symmetric like the black part of the hood?

Since the muscle car market is going retro, wouldn't it be cool to see a race series that has the new Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger all duking it out in some stock form? I'd love to see the resultant Chevrolet Racing catalog, like Ford has Ford Racing bits for the S197.
As to weight, all manufacturers are making porkier cars. Even Porsche makes pigs, although they produce GT2s and GT3s (and of course GT3 RS in Europe) that are lightweight versions of the street cars. The BMW enthusiasts bemoan the new 1 series for being a pig, and it is! It's larger and heavier than my 10 year old M3. The fact of the matter is, cars are getting bigger and heavier, and automakers aren't interested in making stripper models for folks like us that want cloth, crank windows, manual seats, etc... I commend any automaker that makes that car. But face it, in a sea of dipshits driving 70 in the fastlane, yakking on their cell phone while they ferry the kids to school, happy that there are four cupholders in their 5000 pound V8 "performance vehicle", we are the minority. We know how to drive and know what a performance car feels like. But they ain't building a car for us. They're building a car for them Alright, I could go on for pages. If you want a performance 5th gen, I suggest starting with a body in white. I've been having dreams of economy rebounds, stock market gains, and the notion of building up a body in white for AI since the first 5th gen pictures came out. Fact is, them days is gone. Jason |

Jules, spill it! Do you have info on a stripper 5th gen? Or if you have info on an economic upturn I'd be interested in that too! ;-)

I'd love to see the resultant Chevrolet Racing catalog, like Ford has Ford Racing bits for the S197. NASCAR has discussed shifting to the pony cars for the Busch, er, Nationwise series. That could be interesting...although it would leave Toyota out (not that thats a bad thing either...) |

I really enjoyed watching the IROC racing Firebirds on TV. |

I was really excited when the new Camaro was introduced.....when was the first time I saw it again? Oh yeah, 3 or 4 YEARS ago! Hell, it stared in a MAJOR MOTION PICTURE a year ago! It is almost getting stale already.
I am VERY sorry to say that if the new Camaro was introduced in the next few months and I had $40,000 laying around.....I would MOST LIKELY buy a Challenger SRT8. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) The Challenger looks much cleaner, the interior, although Dodge boring, seems much nicer in photos, and the SRT8 engine I drive quite often in the wife's car.....Chevy has a way to go to beat it IMHO..... We will see...... This post has been edited by rmackintosh: Mar 29 2008, 03:10 PM |

We will see...... I think the Challenger is great, however IMHO apples and oranges here. A Z28 will likely be 25-30k and will likely accelerate, handle and brake better, not to mention get better gas milage. If I had 40k to spend it would be difficult not to get an LS3 C6 (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

With the new government 35 MPG fleet fuel economy mandates coming out we should see the OE's putting a lot more effort into weight reduction. But vehicle costs are going to go up a lot!

I had been quite bummed out about it before, eyeing the Solstice as my next street car....I am sworn to secrecy with my knowledge though. I will disclose when I am given permission. Until then you cannot torture it out of me (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/twak.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/hitwithrock.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/buttkick.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/1poke.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Unfortunately my crystal ball broke this am (dam cats, eh Mitch!) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant2.gif) just before the economy forecast appeared. I wrote a letter to the SCCA about a "rebirth" of the Trans-Am series using the new crop of ponycars with rules similar to the speed GT series. Slot it right in between the GT and Touring cars. I'd watch it! Of course you know how it goes with writing letters to the SCCA!
