Hey guys, I can't seem to find out if the 4th gens had a cabin air filter. If so, does anyone know where its located? Thanks! Jason S. |

While we're on the subject, how often should these cabin air filters be replaced? I bought an 03 Chevy Tracker from my dad a few months ago for a daily driver, and I know it has one (no idea where though). I also know it's never been changed. Just wondering if this is something I should be taking care of, or not worrying about.

I never drive on gravel, most of our airborne stuff here is tree pollen and fog. Passenger interior footwell, under or behind the glove box I think. |

I'd take it out and have a look at it then go from there. I've seen some that were absolutely filthy (oil field trucks).

Just replaced mine on the '02 duramax and it was a lot worse than I expected for 88K. Not all that much dirt road driving, just race tracks ect. But I'm glad I changed it. Jason S. |

It depends a lot on your environment. I swapped out the one in our '02 D/A 2500HD a little over a year ago. It was pretty gray, but still flowed air. I've read some have noted a great increase in air movement in the HVAC system after replacing it. I did not, but wasn't suffering a lack of airflow anyway. I was feeling guilty. It was more of a bisch to replace than I thought it should be. There was a screw way down on the bottom of the ductwork that I simply didn't reinstall because of the issues I had removing it. I have a pretty good tool collection, and made many, many visits to the toolbox to find the right combo of things to pull the screw. YMMV, but I thought it was very poorly-placed. Once the panel came off, the filter dropped right out. But getting the cover panel off, sheesh....... |
