I can't wait to see it finished, Stan. One of the cleanest and most serious 3rd gens I've seen (don't see many with Jericos).
So are we taking bets on how much painter tape you'll use on the nose for the first track event? I say 2.5 rolls. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) |

(IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1158.jpg)
My bro in-law helping me put the pedal asms back in the car - top priority since I needed to take measurements to have some flex lines made to go from the MC's to the hard line. (IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1166.jpg) Still needs black paint around the windshield and cowl - I'm going to do it tomorrow if I get good weather. (IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1168.jpg) What's amazing is hacks like Jeremy and I welded this roof back on. (IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1159.jpg) This paint is going to ADD 2 seconds to my lap times (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) |

Hey you welded the top back on, I only helped trim, measure and discussed ideas. If it blows off in Putnam Co in a few weeks, I'm going to plea ignorance!
The 2 seconds will come back off your lap times in about 4 years once you get a few nicks and scuffs in it... It looks fantastic man, I can't wait to see it with all it's clothes back on, (normally thats the other way around isn't it?) it's going to be killer. We'll have to discuss stripes and numbers, I think you'll want to break up some of the red with something. No I'm not suggesting the stock decals again either... |

I didn't get pics of the roof, but Keith took these just before it left his shop:
(IMG:http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/4950626915_134903020a.jpg) (IMG:http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4107/4951215282_2f62bfe6d4.jpg) (IMG:http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4128/4950628451_06bea19992.jpg) I've noticed that the gray looks more blue than it really is in the pictures. In person it is gray. |

I had good help this weekend so were able to get a lot done. Jeremy and I logged in a bunch of hours; many thanks to him for make the trip up here and busting his sack working on the car. There were some small things that prevented us from getting it running but I don't consider it any real set-back. There is a ton of work to do that has to be done no matter what. We could have cobbled up a few things to make it run but that doesn't really put us any farther ahead is just not the way we do things.
(IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1175a.jpg) (IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1176a.jpg) Jeremy had an engine sling so we thought it'd be easier to put the engine in with the Trans attached - not so. I'll never do it that way again in a 3rd gen. (IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1184a.jpg) Space Shuttle stuff AKA air conditioning (IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1187a.jpg) One of the jokes of the weekend was the 'pimpy' red wire loom that I had to buy at Advanced auto for the trailer hitch and brake install that we put on my pickup. You'll notice it routed around the engine 1x and through the header. Jeremy recently installed a brake controller and hitch set-up on his Tahoe so he knew exactly what was needed for my pickup. He put together a parts list for me and we knocked out the whole hitch + lights + brakes install in ~4 hours or so. It's nice to have that done since I will be getting a trailer soon hopefully. (IMG:http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o33/StanIROCZ/Paint/IMG_1193a.jpg) On Thursday night I painted the visible areas on the outside flat black to cut down on glare and it looks a heck of a lot better. Some parts need ordered, some parts need to be received in the mail, I have a lot of wiring to do still, I think I forgot some bolts at the paint shop, and there are a million small things to do still. Oh, and I'm so glad there aren't fenders on this thing right now. |

Awesome looking car and sounds like you are making great progess. I agree about the fenders being off,no scratches and easier to work on. 1 question are you sure you want that wire through the header? Keep up the good work

1 question are you sure you want that wire through the header? The red wire loom you see is the correct color and routed in the correct location for it's purpose. Due to the size of it's johnson rod, this engine needs water heated muffler bearings. We have copper line coming out of the intake manifold on the rear driver's side that feeds the muffler bearings which are under the passenger side floor. We route the copper water line around the header like that for the added heat. The red wire loom over the copper line is just some really cool stuff Austin picked up at Autozone. It matches the car better than the blue wire loom he originally bought for it. |

_Where_ did you find water-cooled 3rd Gen Muffler Bearings?!? I've been looking for those for like forever. Our air-cooled units get very hot when autocrossing on asphalt, causing the kanute valve to stop functioning early. I think a water-cooled muffler bearing would prevent this.

The muffler bearings we used were from an '83 Corvette, but were also used on water cooled volkswagens before 1974. They were on sale at www.kalecoauto.com, where Austin and I buy all of our hotrod parts. I'm still trying to talk him into buying a new O-pipe....
