It's a Speedway Motors 27 Track T roadster kit.
With a Chevy strait six, webers or hilborn's. A finned aluminum box built around the hilborns W/a turbo setup. Mated to a T-5 manual out of an S-10. Front disk brakes W/replica Buick finned drum 'brake covers' Rear would be a GM 10 bolt (again out of an S-10 fitted with 3.73's and a T2R ( (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ). And adapt the G-body aluminum drums to it. Build a simple interior, and some Hildebrandt wheels with repo cheater slicks on the back.... I just may sell my Comet so I can buy one of these!! I've always eye balled the Factory Five Cobra kit cars to run one in AP. Yeah I know it's a kit car, but man they look like a lot of fun for under $20k. My only thing is I have done the classic car thing and I'm done with them, so I'm tring to convince myself that it is not like a classic car. Being down to only 1 car and 1 truck is so nice. I'm with you on the Factory Five. However, I've seen some kit cars based on the old Lotus 7 design that are easy on the budget and very quick on the road course. One of those might very well be my choice if I stop racing and just want a fun hobby / OT car. I've seen one with a S2000 engine in it that looked like a LOT of fun.

Howevr, I can't afford one right now and there is no way I'm selling the camaro. I like the factory five because it can be a fun autocross car and would turn more heads than almost anything else you can buy. |

I have mixed emotions on the Cobra - keep it authentic or update it?
I would love to have a completely authentic reproduction 427 cobra, including the re-issue aluminum block engine. A real one wouldn't be as much fun, because they are too valuable to beat on. OTOH, most of the replicas have different engines, and fender flares for modern tires. A C5R block or at least an LS6 would be an interesting choice - I don't understand the people who build such cars with a heavy iron engine. And if the engine can be modern or at least different, why not update the suspension a little? Back in the heyday of the Cobra, my father was standing on a footbridge over the track as a group of them went under. The bridge was built from huge timbers, but when the Cobras went by it shook like it was made from toothpicks. |

I'd update it. I'm sure some see that as butchering, but I'm sure some thought Carrol Shelby did the same at first.
I'd get the FFR standard roadster kit and run a carbed 383 SBC with aluminum fastburn or e-tec heads. Buy some suspension analysis software to check out the factory geometry and set it up from there. http://www.factoryfive.com/ The sales literature and dvd can be requested for free and have more info than their site. Yeah I got a brocheure just before I bought my Camaro. Having owned an old Ford FE motor I would update it for sure. Also having played with carb's in autox situations fuel injection is a must have. If the Camaro becomes obsolete in ESP then Factory Five hear I come!

Well, I found my next car too. Unfortunately it is not cheap so it will take some time before I will be able to afford it. Also a pity it uses a Ford engine, but I am not going to spend the time to try and make something else fit. It's fast enough anyway. The problem was fuel running in from the vent in the top of the bowl and flooding the engine with gas which made it stumble or stall the engine. I turned the fuel bowl levels way down and it helped but on really tight low speed turns I would have to leave one foot on the gas a little bit or raise the idle up to 1500 to keep it from stalling under hard braking. Plus changing jets when it gets real hot and humid was not fun. |

I will have to see If I can find some pictures on line...
It definately is NOT a performance car (although maybe in a strait line) The front end is a solid axle with a single leaf, and possibly friction shocks (for cool effect) The rear has two large radius arms and a PHR. With coil overs. Other engine choices would be a Buick strait 8 with some "clearancing" to make it work. Also a Buick Nail head, Pontiac 413, Ford 292, Ford flathead, Chevy 348 or 409, and maybe an Olds Rocket, or 331 ci Hemi. Here's the GM crate motor to go in it...
3.8 3800 Series III Supercharged V-6 Engine This is a high output supercharged V-6 Crate Engine (RPO L32) with the following features: • 260 Horsepower @ 5400 RPM and 280 lb-ft @ 3600 RPM torque • SFI fuel system • Bore 96.52 mm and Stroke is 86.36 mm with 8.5:1 compression ratio • Iron Block, Iron Heads and Hydraulic roller design camshaft • This engine powers the Buick Park Avenue, Pontiac Bonneville, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and Chevrolet Impala • These have production trim that includes: exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, supercharger, injectors, fuel rails, balancer, water pump and flywheel. Pulley, belt, p/s pump, a/c pump, starter, alternator, engine cover, not incl $3850 1400 lbs and 260hp = 5.38 lbs/hp Do you realize that our 3400-3600 lb cars would need around between 632 and 669 hp to have the same power to weight ratio??!?!?!?!?! Your 1400 lbs become 1600 lbs 1600lbs @ 260 hp = 6.15 lbs/hp Now taking our 3400-3600 cars, adding driver, 3600-3800 lbs You would need 585 to 617 hp Are those #s at the wheel ? I'm assuming at the engine... so -15% drivetrain, we're talking equivalent of f-body w/ 500-525rwhp. Not too far fetched from strokers.
