Man I'm excited. Dailydriver posted his car for sale and I could tell from that add that it was much loved and well taken care of. Unfortunately a nasty knock on the engine forced him to sell it. I thought this could be the perfect car for my dad.
This car looks amazing for having 172k miles. It is pretty rare to find a 1 owner car these days. So, first things first. I had the car for all of 30 seconds before I broke it. I dragged the exhaust pulling into my driveway and separated the car back from the y pipe. So today I fixed that so the exhaust wasn't dragging on the ground anymore. Next, I need to make room for all the parts Dave packed into the car. It's completely full of parts. Thanks Dave! And finally, I need to figure out what's up with the engine. It has a nasty knock. It has great oil pressure, runs smooth, no smoke, but knocks really bad. I think it's a lifter, but I don't know. I think I'm going to pull the valve covers and see what I find. As well as this car has been taken care of, I'm hoping the engine is healty. I'd love to just replace some lifters and let my dad enjoy this car for a while. Anyway, let me know what you guys would do to diagnose this knock. https://youtu.be/AJUsOvgpnmg https://youtu.be/otobYePJLyo |

Just got back from PCM...they flashed the original mail order tune. Runs great again. So smooth. Nearly no surging.

Finally got the 1SC on the scales today. I had the guy drop the front ride height by about 1/2-1". Looks so much better. I'm going to get it aligned tomorrow. He also fixed my exhaust leak which was driving me nuts.
https://flic.kr/p/WZwdnA https://flic.kr/p/WZwdis https://flic.kr/p/WZwdo7 I wish I had thought to bring some heater hose to tweak the rear springs a little, but I didn't. At least the front is even. That is with me in it. I weigh 190 lbs (all muscle). |

any updates Not really. My dad has the car now. I replaced the battery and turns out it’s the alternator. It’s chanrging but not by much. All the rear wheel bearings need to be replaced. Probably going to just have a shop do it. M I’ve been thinking about the weight. Not sure if you guys could see the flicker picture, but it weighs right at 3400 without a driver and half a tank of fuel. Does that sound a little heavy for a 1SC with no ac and no rear seats? My LT1 car has more weight reduction but also has a heavy flywheel and it weighs 200 lbs less. |

There has been a clunk in the right rear for a while and I thought it was a bushing. Turns out its coming from the hearing. There is some up and down movement. Also there is a lot of noise coming from the rear end. I thought it was the Toyo’s Just being a loud tire, but it’s probablu bearings. I think I’m going to pay a shop to rebuild the rear end. As far as my car goes, to my knowledge the bearings are fine, I just need a new LSD so I’m thinking about just finding a write up and learning something new. |
