I recently had a 396 installed in my '94 Firehawk and with the new found power, the GTRotor brake upgrade I did when the car was stock have proven insufficient.

I was going to do a Z06 upgrade but as I understand it, the guy who was making the brackets isn't making them anymore so I'm looking for some advice on where to go for reasonably priced front rotors, calipers and pads for my car.

My Hawk is a street car and may see the drag strip once in a while so I don't need anything radical, I just want something reliable.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd consider the LS1 brake upgrade and a good set of pads (hawk HPS, etc). You'll be surprised how well those can work. Brain (shortbus) just did the swap on his car a few months ago (at my place, it is not hard). That is the cheap easy way.

You are speaking of Bobs brackets (lateapex here on the board). Sadly, Bob is no longer making brackets (at least not currently). There are a few used sets around. Or, LG Motorsports makes a Z06 (Corvette brake rotor) conversion. I think you'll need the LS1 brake parts to do the LG kit (but don't quote me on that), so I'd probably just do them first and then upgrade if it is really needed.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked LG's site and all I saw for the LT1 was the Wilwood set up. I'll keep looking around, you're the second person who has suggested an LS1 conversion.

Would you be interested in my Prospeed brake package?

It consists of 13" rotors and 4 piston Porsche/Brembo calipers.

Do I want to know what you will be replacing this with?

LG has updated their site, but some things are still not on it. Call them to get info.

Hi,

Don't buy Mitch's set. He beat the snot out of 'em!!

Buy mine!! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I only drove to car meets and really only drove the car in and out of a trailer (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Sorry Mitch, I couldn't resist.

Actually, I replaced my Baer kit w/the Prospeed setup.

Here are the details:

They go on Ebay this week.

Steve

Ask for brakes and ye shall receive.

Sorry Steve, I forgot about you having a set for sale.

You have the choice of excellent and phenominal (or something like that).

And, actually I may have a set of LS1 brakes for sale soon (someone on this board has first option on them, but if she says no, then I'll have an "extra" set).

I seem to remember Sam was now selling the SSBC brake set ups. While they may not be the hard core race track brakes the Prospeed or Brembos set ups are, they sound like they may fit your needs. Just a suggestion. You might want to call Sam and get more info before you make your final decision. I think I remember the prices being comparable to a C5 conversion, + or - a bit.

This ... hopefully ... if Barney and I can come to an agreement.

Those replacement brakes are smaller than what you are used to, but they seem to come with lots of options. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)

That license seems to have made a priority adjustment. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

If it happens, then it happens.

But I can't break the bank getting into a car.

If this one doesn't blossom, then something else will eventually come along.

It would be nice to get a car early so that I can go through things and make sure everything is OK.

I have a Driver's Edge event in November and that will be the last track session the white car will see.

Back on topic ...

396, I responded ...
