With snow in the forecast for this weekend, I reinstalled the Blizzaks this morning. Good thing - snow is falling now! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
Shouldn't get much accumulation, but still.... Finishing up putting the shrink wrap on the drafty old windows. Still in shock from the fuel oil bill. Maybe I can transfer back to Texas! Burr.... I hate winter.... BTW, 225/55-16 tires, 16x7.5 steel wheels - no fitment issues. I'll get a weight in the Spring (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) |

I run 215/60-16's on the same rims. I know they are reasonably heavy for skinny little soft tires, but they go well in the slippery stuff. Stay warm up there.

I was working last winter, on a night we got a 2-3 foot dumping on. I knew our driveway wasn't shoveled, so I stayed at a motel near work. The side roads to the motel were plowed, but the snow was piling up faster than it could be cleared. The motel parking lost wasn't plowed at all.
You should have seen the look on the desk staffs faces when I told them I drove into their parking lot - in a Firebird! "Did you just call here"? "Yes" "How did you get here"? "I just drove here from the other side of the mall. I don't want to drive the 25 miles home and have to shovel the driveway". "You drive a truck"? "No, a Firebird" "Where'd you park"? "The parking lot"! "How'd you get in there"? "Drove"! I got similar reactions from the toll collectors. Even pushed a stuck car with mine once. I saw snow in Texas on the news recently - was it last week?
Kevin, I don't think unsprung weight is all THAT big a deal for driving on snow (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I remember the winter I spent in San Antonio as being pretty mild, but the summers are killer!

Actually, they may work better if you filled them with antifreeze. Beats putting sand in the back (not that I do that with snow tires on the car). We did that to a lawn tractor once. It would not climb any hills, filled the tires with antifreeze, that thing went everywhere. Snow in Texas? I remember Mitch posting a picture last year when that happened..... |

It's one thing putting fluid in a 5' diameter tire on a vehicle that has a hard time breaking 20mph, but in a car that does 70+, could be interesting when you hit the brakes. |

Yup, the rear tires on my tractor are filled with a strong solution of calcium chloride. Besides keeping it from freezing, the calcium chloride greatly increases the density.
There are some potential maintenance issues with the UE TA as a four season daily driver, but I'm betting some anti-squat combined with the Arctic Alpins will be great on snow and ice (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

haven't put the car away yet... thinking @ the end of november... still no snow yet here... and none in the forecast.
I guess I can take advantage of a few good days till the end of the month, and then get ready for another waiting period... can't wait for march already. |

The good thing of it, it makes us appreciate our cars more when spring comes along... as if we get a new car every year. |
