On a different topic, I love competing in the rain. I hate changing tires in the rain, and working my shift in the rain, and hanging around in the rain, but competing in the rain separates the men from the boys, so to speak. Yeah, I know, it's only an HPDE, but ....

Cool, but "porn" doesn't belong in the title. Since my employer uses automatic keyword detection, among other things, to put people on the radar, this makes frrax and "View New Posts" NSFW until this thread goes away. Yeah, I'd still pass closer scrutiny, I hope, but I prefer not to be on the list. Also, the concept of warnings has been totally abandoned - there are none. If an invisible and intangible line is crossed, that's it, and the employee's manager (and/or performance reviews) has no say in the matter. That may be a sad state of affairs, but I like getting a paycheck. Title fixed. |

Wow, I really hope I am some day well-off enough to be able to put a $100K+ car on a wet track and drive it around at speed without worrying what happens if I hit a puddle of water in a turn. Or worse, have someone else hit a puddle in a turn and collect me on the way to the guardrail.
Even then, I hope I still have the brains to just leave it on the trailer and sit back with a cold one, watching the other idiots going around the wet track. Sorry, while neat to look at, I just can't get past the bit about balling up a car I have put so much time and/or money into. I'd have to sit that one out. But that's just me. Beautiful cars, though. Thanks. |

I'm building a 67 RS that I'd like to run like that, but no way in the rain! Crazy! No trailer queen, but I'd sit back with a cold one and watch... Till it's ready, I'm learning the ropes with my T/A.

Gene, you've got the right state of mind. Don't put it on the track unless you can live with wadding it up... which is why I built a race car. Haha.

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) Pretty cars. Judging from the paint jobs, Im thinking not too many of those photos are 100K cars. Probably quite a few 30-60K cars though. I was eyballing the 69 Z/28 and it looks like a really nice track car. Front spoiler is not stock, wheels and tires not stock, it appears to have a roll bar in it (not stock), and a Grassroots Motorsports sticker ? If this car was 100% original matching numbers in good condition, it would be about 70-90K. And if it still has the original 302 in it, the owner is stupid. Just my $0.02 Bock |

I was basing my quote on the fact that some may be actual original cars. Additionally, while some may not be original, once you get done with all the parts, your not too far from 100K. Still a lot of ca$h going around that track, and I'd hope my wife would bop me on the back of the head and ask "What were you doing, ....thinking?"
Even if they aren't worth $100K, some are getting rare, and there are a LOT of hours of time spent on them. IMHO, they are rolling history, not a tool. But that's me. |

Thanks. I understand your reluctance to drive in the rain. I deal with this with students everytime it rains, but it isn't as bad as it looks. I personally think you might change your mind if you tried it under the right circumstances...an HPDE with an instructor. My humble suggestion is to grab an experienced instructor and get your feet wet next time you have the opportunity. I was at a two day event earlier this year where the was a fatality one day and it rained one day...they weren't the same day. I've been open tracking for 10 years, instructing for 8 years and have seen plenty of wrecks, none of them in the rain. In a HPDE format, if you spin, put four off, or wreck you are driving over your head....period. It has nothing to do with whether the track is wet or dry. Just my opinion, not trying to start a war. |

I understand your point. Proper training can reap proper rewards. The trouble is, you're having a nice time driving, even in the rain. Some putz tries to overtake you in the corner, diving under you, hooking a wheel off the edge of the tarmac, and he is using you to pad his collision with the tirewall. You can't undo a collision. Things happen quickly on the track. They happen even quicker in the wet. I'm not going to risk it. |
