Hey guys,
I recently started autocrossing my 2000 camaro ss. I want to get more competitive but I will not run any class formally, I just want to have fun and beat my own best time. Currently, Im looking to buy wheels and tires because my current tires are getting old and they are 275/40/17 all-season kumhos. I want to upgrade to either a nt05 or bfg rival. What I cant decide is if I should go to a 18x10.5 because I prefer the looks and run a 295 tire all around or stay with stock wheels and run 275 nt05's all around. Which would you guys choose and why? Thanks, look forward to becoming part of the community |

Welcome! There is a 'wheels and tires' section of this forum where very similar discussions have taken place. Check out that section, and after reviewing some of those posts you still have questions, re-pose this query there.
But if you're new to autocross, stick with a good, quiet street tire on the stock wheels for at least a year. You'll learn more on low-grip street tires than you would something sticky. |

Mark TRUE, but if these are also going to be his street wheels/tires as well(??), the 295s on 18s he wants to run might be a better choice due to less; tramlining issues, rubbing/clearance issues, and spacer issues. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Thanks for the replies, I think i'll be going with a 295 KDW 2 or Proxes 1 all around. I decided that the nt05 and the rival only last about a year to a year and a half which would make tires too expensive for me. In the mean time, ive been trying to find a used set of wheels with tires 17x11 or 18x10.5 with no luck, most seem to run staggered setups, let me know if anyone has some for sale with good tires |

The NT05 last forever. I have a set on my car that I bought used, and I still can't kill them. Trust me, I try hard and they still won't die.

Those are still alive? holy crap. 7 or 8 events, 2 of which were at Devens, and 1500 street miles. Not easy ones either. Not much grip left in them but still clinging to life. I have no idea how. To the OP: I think if you only do a couple events a year and drive sanely on the street, 20k doesn't seem out of the question. |

How much of a difference in ultimate grip will there be if I stayed with 275/40/17's instead of going to a 295/35/18?

Also if you are taking about going to c5z wheels you will need all new studs and spacers. This post has been edited by camarokid91: May 1 2014, 01:02 AM |

If I get new wheels, they would be OEWheels 18x10.5 C6 Z06 DD wheels all around so that should fit fine from what I've read. It looks like I can get a 275/17 NT05 for 584 shipped which is not bad at all, might be the best option. |

I am looking at doing the same thing on my 2002 T/A but with OE wheels 18 x 9.5 Z06 non-DD and 285/35ZR18 RS3. I know they won't be the lightest wheel (27lb) but for DD use and occasional (1x/month) track use they should be fine. Plus if I really get into HPDE/track/auto-x I am sure that I will get a dedicated set of lightweight 18s w/ R comps after a while learning on non R comp tires. What does everyone mean by DD on the OE Wheels Z06es, 'deep dish', or something else??? This post has been edited by dailydriver: May 3 2014, 02:11 AM |
