Kevin & crew showed up right as we had to leave but the car is looking good.

It was great meeting you Bock and little Bock. I wish I'd have arrived sooner, sorry you had to run as we rolled in.

I'm not sure the car is "looking good", but it made the trip and no parts fell off of it. I'm going to take that as a success considering the build time we had, or didn't have. It came, it ran and it went home in one piece with a list of things to attend to. I'll call that a good weekend.

Chad,

If you are that close, you have to let everyone use your shower.

If you'd have smelled us this weekend, you'd reconsider letting us do that. However, a garden hose and a hanging tarp might be a kind gesture. Otherwise, we'll have to just hose off at the car wash. blink.gif

I don't know about a Texas get together, but Bob Denton (MW CMC #67) told me about an idea about running at Hallett (Tulsa, OK) after he got back from MAM. Hallett is 10 hours from Chicago (NASA Midwest), 10 hours from Colorado Springs (NASA Rocky Mountain), and closer (Dallas) or further (holy crap is Harlingen far south!) for you Texas guys.

The idea sounded cool to me. Never been to Hallett, but the idea of 3 region racing and the car counts it could bring? Totally sweet.

Discuss wink.gif

Next May is "Pit Happens" at Hallett, a run what you brung kind of race. The racing is clean, the track is sweet and the track owners are even better. Weather is usually very cool.

The amenities are somewhat primitive, but clean showers and restrooms. RV hook ups, a nice and reasonably priced grill and in the middle of freaking NOWHERE!

And the trip is worth it for the chicken song.

Hallett would be a very sweet deal ...

I'll pass the word around, Mitch.

Either way, I'd like to come race with the Texas boys once next season. My cousin will graduate high school in Flower Mound next year, so there will probably be a graduation party in July or August if I had to guess. So, hopefully there will be something close the weekend before or after. I'll have to see how the money tree grows in the off-season. biggrin.gif

I might have my car back up before next May... Hallett would be fun.

Sweet!

First video is about 30 seconds before my motor ate itelf...

*sniffle*

May it RIP.

Thats not me in your car.. really.. (embarrased... DOH!)

I think I said 'straight line' a couple too many times when what I wanted you do is let the car flow around the track and not fight to put it on a line that wasn't natural... When you hit the cones right on the lines that I liked, it felt good to both of us. The car just naturally flowed around the track.

I need to work on my instruction vocabulary. I think got my point across however wink.gif

Proper apex cones would have helped out a bunch of other open track guys as well. I guess we were technically guest and the track wasn't really setup for HPDE instruction.

That video was a good laugh tongue.gif

Preceeding some instructional strings with the F-Bomb gets folks attention.

These help as well ...

"Do that again and you'll have blood on your hands."
"You are to the anti-driver."
"We have Vettes, Scions and a Yerf Dog. The dog fits your driving style."
"I've never seen that done in a vehicle with just 4 wheels."
"Can you discern between asphalt black and lawn green?"

We could have used you this weekend.....

And, when parking a trailer at night, this one is particularly relavant:

After loading up the car, I backed the trailer in and lined it up, and then realized that I was on the grass and not the concrete pad. I was looking through a tinted rear window in the dark and could only see the outline of the concrete pad. I just picked the wrong side of the line to park it on (the grass was darker, so I assumed it was asphalt). Oops.nutkick.gif

WOW 2thumbs.gif Looks like you guys had fun!!!!

If you ever want to do a East coast deal, we could doing something piggyback style with a couple of groups we run with @ Watkins Glen.

I promise you a good time and we are not predjuce...........all our friends ( yes Texas too!!) would be welcome. nutkick.gif

Sounds like a great time, congrats! 2thumbs.gif

Ya know, I remember being real tired and asking you where you were going to put the trailer. When you proceeded to line up perfectly on the grass lane between concrete pads and shoved her back... I thought "smart ass". Apparently you're just blind as a bat... nutkick.gif

I had just said "Screw it, I'll park in the grass if I have to"....

Factory tinted glass and it being dark outside are my excuses. I'm not too blind, I lined it right up....just on the wrong side.

And, yes, we did have a blast. I wish that more of you guys had made it out (up, down, over, etc) to play. Maybe next time. I'm up for doing it again, I just have to see when and how much my fuel cost will be and cross check that against the fun money budget. I spent $450 on fuel in 2 days and I know Chris (CJ-TA) had to have done far worse than that (and Andy too).

And you would be incorrect.... I towed just under 1,000 miles and 11 gallons for the track (50 minutes of track time and about 120 gallons of fuel total).

Stan,

The main reason I skipped the Nevada ORR races this year was fuel costs. 3200 miles round trip to Northern Nevada is between 400 and 500 gallons of diesel. Then I burn 12 gals of propane a day running the generator on the RV when I am there.

It gets expensive. banghead.gif

Ok, more correctly, the expensive part of owning a truck and trailer is the new desire to go to track events that are +1000 miles away smile.gif

I won't even dare try to guess how much I spent in gas.

I know that I filled up 4 times from ft worth to harlingen on the way home. headed into a 30mph head wind, the truck was barely able to maintain 60mph with ~1150* EGT's.

ok, a random guess.. a 'fill up' for me is both tanks on my F350.. lets call it 34 gallons bone dry. I was running one tank 'dry' and tried to not go below 1/4 tank on the other.

3 fillups from harlingen to dallas
4 from dallas to nashville
4 from nashville to dallas
4 from dallas to home.

15 tanks at ~$80 average = ~1200. ouch.

I had planned on $1500 in fuel alone.

next time, ill ship the car for $500 each way, and fly wink.gif
