I need to cool the brakes on my CMC build on my 95 camaro. Where are most people putting the intake for the cool air? Are the any inlets made for this car to make a neat installation? Some pics would be helpful.
thanks

I know a lot of guys have used the area where the fog lights were. I believe that's the most popular place for brake cooling ducts on a LT1 camaro.

Some people also cut holes in the airdam and rivit some cooling ducts to the back for the brake cooling. If everything goes according to plans I plan on having the brake ducts come off the front breather setup.

behind the fog lights is the steel bumper. It would take some serious metal removal to get a duct out from there. Air dam would work but seems like it would be flimsy there. I've seen some where the turn signals are but the ones I've seen there looked rigged and not very well done and I'm not sure how much air they would pick up there.
thanks

Is this a streetcar for lapping? What makes you think you need brake cooling? Have you used up all you options for pads and brake upgrades?

CMC = Camaro Mustange Challenge = Racecar

NACA ducts in turn signal light holes

Duh. Nevermind. LOL

I've used these in the foglight holes:

With a little trimming, and some fab work to fill the gaps, they look good. Trimming the bumper cover and bumper beam for brake duct clearance is CMC legal.

4 years straight i've been a podium finisher at Nat's in a CMC car. regional Champ as well as 2x National Champ, even an Overall Enduro win (8 hrs).

i have no cooling ducts and never have. drive the car first. find out if you even need them before you add them it doesnt need ducts just because its track only car.

Kinda hard to argue with that!

I don't think brake ducts are gonna improve my lap times but I do feel they will reduce wear and tear on my brake pads and rotor. At 160$ for pads and rotors at 50$ each I think the coolers would be cheap installation for a little more equipment life. The parts needed for brake ducts are less than 100$ and a little elbow grease.

i get 3 plus events out of a set of XP10's.
i once ran an 8 hour enduro and 2 more regional events on the same set of pads.
....... who cares if they extend wear beyond that. they are just not worth the major hassel of keeping them free of damage.

another data point. i installed a used pair of calipers on this car when i built it (dust boots burned off) back in 2004. they have never been off the car or disconnected from the brake line - NEVER in 5 years of 7-8 event weekends per year. our regional weekends are 7 track sessions per event - 1 prcatice/warmup, 2 quals and 4 races. National events (4 in the last 4 years) are 3-4 DAYS of track time.
i'm telling you - drive the car, get behind the wheel, then see if they are needed. your tracks local to you may need them. i havent, even at Miller (CMC track record holder there).

oh, i also get a season our of cheep parts store rotors ($60 each - Wagners).

I generally get 5 weekends or 20 races out of cheap Autozone rotors and XP10 pads. I have raced for three years with no cooling either and in Texas heat.

I have decided for next year to try brake cooling to see if anything can be gained from having them, but I am not expecting much though.

I made ducts out of thin sheet metal (AC Ducts) that went in my turn signals on my Gen3 car. I then ran 3" clothes dryer ducting to a 3" aluminum pipe mounted to the frame at the tire apex rub spot. From there I ran the good duct to the tire to save on cost and repair length. the only reason for the ducts in AZ is that it gets so darn hot out here.. we need to cool everything we can!
