No TPIS 422, but my lil ol Gen I tree-fitty is ready to go back in the car with new accessories:

KRC PS pump and tank
custom machine from billet alt bracket
Jones Racing small crank and WP pulleys, and misc other hardware including the big nut at the front to put a wrench on to turn the crank for adjusting my hydraulic (ha!) valves. Jones makes some nice stuff BTW.
The big crank pulley was made by me from the original smog pump pulley + some lathe work + welding + some more lathe work
Edelbrock water pump

If you notice the belts are ~2-3" farther rearward than stock gen one set-ups.

All in all this was one project that went out of control and I spent way too much money on.

Still look in great beerchug.gif

That setup looks awesome. That's exactly what I've wanted to do for a while, but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger and spend the $$$. mad.gif

Yeah, you must have done the math before you started buying everything, unlike me. It started innocent with an ebay deal on the new pump and some fabrication ideas using stock spare parts, then some free machine work, then needed Nascar parts and an Edelbrock water pump and I found myself ashamed of what I spent on this – it is a good % of an LSX swap.

This is about 30 lbs lighter than the stock 88-92 set-up with AC and smog delete, and my other goal was to get everything mounted low and as far back as possible.

I got my Mr. T starter kit ordered and I found a cool scratcher belt buckle on e-bay, hopefully it all arrives before this weekend!

Any WWF championship belt copy should work nicely. Don't forget to hose yourself down with mosquito repellent before leaning in on those fenders. nutkick.gif

I can't wait to see it finished, Stan. One of the cleanest and most serious 3rd gens I've seen (don't see many with Jericos).

So are we taking bets on how much painter tape you'll use on the nose for the first track event? I say 2.5 rolls. 2thumbs.gif

My bro in-law helping me put the pedal asms back in the car - top priority since I needed to take measurements to have some flex lines made to go from the MC's to the hard line.

Still needs black paint around the windshield and cowl - I'm going to do it tomorrow if I get good weather.

What's amazing is hacks like Jeremy and I welded this roof back on.

This paint is going to ADD 2 seconds to my lap times banghead.gif
1meanZ
Hey you welded the top back on, I only helped trim, measure and discussed ideas. If it blows off in Putnam Co in a few weeks, I'm going to plea ignorance!

The 2 seconds will come back off your lap times in about 4 years once you get a few nicks and scuffs in it...

It looks fantastic man, I can't wait to see it with all it's clothes back on, (normally thats the other way around isn't it?) it's going to be killer. We'll have to discuss stripes and numbers, I think you'll want to break up some of the red with something. No I'm not suggesting the stock decals again either...

I had good help this weekend so were able to get a lot done. Jeremy and I logged in a bunch of hours; many thanks to him for make the trip up here and busting his sack working on the car. There were some small things that prevented us from getting it running but I don't consider it any real set-back. There is a ton of work to do that has to be done no matter what. We could have cobbled up a few things to make it run but that doesn't really put us any farther ahead is just not the way we do things.

Jeremy had an engine sling so we thought it'd be easier to put the engine in with the Trans attached - not so. I'll never do it that way again in a 3rd gen.

Space Shuttle stuff AKA air conditioning

One of the jokes of the weekend was the 'pimpy' red wire loom that I had to buy at Advanced auto for the trailer hitch and brake install that we put on my pickup. You'll notice it routed around the engine 1x and through the header. Jeremy recently installed a brake controller and hitch set-up on his Tahoe so he knew exactly what was needed for my pickup. He put together a parts list for me and we knocked out the whole hitch + lights + brakes install in ~4 hours or so. It's nice to have that done since I will be getting a trailer soon hopefully.

On Thursday night I painted the visible areas on the outside flat black to cut down on glare and it looks a heck of a lot better.

Some parts need ordered, some parts need to be received in the mail, I have a lot of wiring to do still, I think I forgot some bolts at the paint shop, and there are a million small things to do still. Oh, and I'm so glad there aren't fenders on this thing right now.
rocky
Awesome looking car and sounds like you are making great progess. I agree about the fenders being off,no scratches and easier to work on. 1 question are you sure you want that wire through the header? Keep up the good work

The red wire loom you see is the correct color and routed in the correct location for it's purpose. Due to the size of it's johnson rod, this engine needs water heated muffler bearings. We have copper line coming out of the intake manifold on the rear driver's side that feeds the muffler bearings which are under the passenger side floor. We route the copper water line around the header like that for the added heat. The red wire loom over the copper line is just some really cool stuff Austin picked up at Autozone. It matches the car better than the blue wire loom he originally bought for it.

_Where_ did you find water-cooled 3rd Gen Muffler Bearings?!? I've been looking for those for like forever. Our air-cooled units get very hot when autocrossing on asphalt, causing the kanute valve to stop functioning early. I think a water-cooled muffler bearing would prevent this.
1meanZ
The muffler bearings we used were from an '83 Corvette, but were also used on water cooled volkswagens before 1974. They were on sale at www.kalecoauto.com, where Austin and I buy all of our hotrod parts. I'm still trying to talk him into buying a new O-pipe....

I was beginning to think that I needed an SB2.2 to fix this issue, but luckily today I found that I (dip shit) had one of the ECM power wires wired into the accessory circuit which is not powered while cranking. Moved the fan circuit over to accessory to make room for the ECM power wire in the ignition part of the fuse panel and it started right up. Here's proof if you need it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ixpj79mLV0A

I was worried about the exhaust initially but setting the timing made it not sound like a top fuel dragster. I'm anxious to get it on the ground and outside to see what it sounds like.

Well since Austin has been holding out on us with his updates, I'll jump in and give as much as an update as I can.

Below is the transcript of a phone call I had with him today. This is similar to many of his calls where I have to go out to the garage and look at one of my cars to tell him how to put his back together. LOL

Jeremy: What do you want dirt bag?

Austin: hey are you by your cars?

Jeremy: yah, I'm in the garage now actually, about to leave on the motorcycle....

Austin: hey that triangle weatherstripping thing by the rear view mirrors, it's longer on one side than on the other. Is the long side supposed to be on the inside of the car or the outside?

Jeremy: (looking at camaro) the long part is supposed to be on the inside of the car (walks over to TA).........Yup the TA is the same way......

Austin: well it looks like i put the one in backwards

Jeremy: you're stupid failure

Austin: I'm wrapping this thing up so I can drive it home from the body shop today. Not sure if I should post any pix or keep you guys waiting....

Jeremy: well I've had an erection for over 4 hours now, so unless you want me to seek medical attention you better post some pix

Austin: (laughing) well I'll think about it.........

^Keith Strong, Mr. Ice Nine Customs. AKA The Man.

I drove it home ~20 miles after taking these pics and believe it or not, I didn't get pulled over, no one tried to race me, and the car didn't break drink.gif

Still a bunch of little things to finish up. I need to get the gauges in, work on the hood/fender/fascia fitment, fix the exhaust outlet, headlights, install the rest of the firewall block off plates so I don't smell like gas, fire extinghisher, door weather-strip, the other 2 hood pins, fix a dzus, and bunch of other small stuff.

incredible man. As I suspected, I'm still loving the rear spoiler, I'm going to have to do something like that on mine, I don't care if it's ricer or not. Fantastic paint quality it appears from the pix. Now we gotta talk about numbers and such to break up all that pretty red a bit. What did Mrs. Gerding say when you got home? How did it drive? How light does it feel? Ready for that SB2.2 yet?

QUOTE (1meanZ @ Oct 11 2010, 01:06 AM) *
What How did it drive? How light does it feel?

It feels stiff, light, loud, and rattles like crazy. I forgot how bad the tune is still off, I wish it ran as well as yours does. I'm not sure if the new exhaust has made a drastic change or not. Also, it has had 2 year old gas in the tank until right before I drove it home so there might be some self cleaning that happens.

I didn't really get a chance to jump on it more than doing a little burnout at Ice Nine. I was about to jump on it on an on-ramp but saw a cop right at the end with someone pulled over already so I decided against it. Beyond that I just wanted to get it home in one piece so I didn't play around.

I like the initial feel of the manual brakes but there was a couple times I tried to stop a little hard and it didn't really want to grab near like it used to so I need to test this out some more.

She was pissed because I did nothing but work on the car for 4 days straight smile.gif But she likes the paint since she won't feel like tralier park queen riding in it anymore (well, that is until anyone looks at me ph34r.gif ). She sat in the drivers seat (pass not in yet) and she say's 'this scares me' because she can't really see out the windows because the seat is so low! lol Keith told me I look like a kid driving it.
