Sweet! That was fast. (of course, you are in the same state).
Hey Bock, go get your tires mounted, would ya?Okay Okay.
I got a big surprise when I opened up the wheels. They all look round, and I ordered the square ones.
Just kidding.
However, either by mistake or pleasant surprise, they included a full set of chrome lug nuts with one locking nut for each wheel, plus a chrome valve stem for each wheel. Must be 40-50 bucks worth of extras, which I cant actually use for the race car. (I do have other cars they will look nice on).
Im thinking this may have been a mistake, so if they want them back, they need to send me a shipping account number.
Thanks

Probably not a mistake. OE wheels usually packages lug nuts and valve stems with all their wheels. Glad to hear you got yours. I already have my tires here and waiting.

Wow...I guess I need to pick some tires out soon. Trying to decide between Kumho MXs and Falken 615s for getting to events and back-up tires (in case a race tire cords or it rains) for autox/track use.
Same deal here-street and backup use. I went with MX's because I know the camber I have for race tires will kill street tires so I went with the cheaper option. FWIW I've been under the impression from some that the 615's might get better wet traction, although they start out shallower 8/32 vs the MX's at 10/32 IIRC.

Besides, if you got the square ones, you'd only be able to buy tires at Pep Boys. They seem to have the market cornered on square tires......

A little heavy as expected, but the finish quality is really nice (hey I'm using one set for the street).

Hi guys. It’s been a while.
Would someone who got
painted wheels weigh them and post results.
I am mainly interested in the 17” x 9.5”.
I see the weight of the chromed version.
Thanks,

Welcome back Bob. It's been a long time sir.
If you would want a set, I can still get them at a discount for you. They did have a slight price increase and it may change slightly, but it should be close. If you're interested, let me know and I'll check.

I got polished ones, which should be the same weight or lighter than painted wheels. In the 17x9.5, the OEs are 26 lbs. on my digital bathroom scale which displays down to 1/2 lb. (my weight holding the wheel - my weight alone). So, that makes them definitely heavier than AFS wheels, which is what I expected from previous posts here and which I don't mind since I got these for street wheels. About a month ago I got new AFS 17x11 50mm polished wheels and using the same weighing method on the same scale, they were 24.5 lbs. each.

My wheels are the same on a medical scale as well. ~27.5 lbs I'm just going to have to get a Fidanza to compensate on the acceleration end.

Looks like I might need another wheel. One of the 17X9.5 black GS wheels that I already had has a crack in the back lip. I found this after having it repainted to be my street rim

I doubt if the reproductions look exactly like the originals in the outer lip area. Maybe this isn't an issue for you, but you might want to look at an "OE" rim side by side with an "OEM" rim and make sure they are close enough to suit you.
racerns
Sep 21 2006, 05:48 PM
Actually they are pretty close to the 17X11 OE wheels that I already have as far as the polished lip size. I was kind of worried about the weight but that should not make any real difference for a street wheel.

Kevin, make sure you let us know before this is over!
I'm going to probably wait until the last possible moment to order a set! I'm going to try something bold and fit 11's on the front of a 3rd gen, it is a winter project. Should be legal for SM, right? I'm going to make custom spindles that will push the strut in towards the engine, and shorten the steering arm and/or move it up. We'll see how it turns out.

Well, unfortunately I found out that this is now over (indirectly of course).
I called yesterday to order a set of wheels for a member here and was quoted $89 freight (should have been $14 a wheel) and I was told that since we were buying 4 17x11's, they had to split a set and they charge $40 extra for 4 11's. So, if I buy 1 or 2, it's ok, but if I want 4, they charge $40 extra? And, the price on the wheels suddenly went up.
The background is that my wholesale contact there is gone, the guy who is now working wholesale seems to not care how many wheels we've bought and looks to be intent on charging nearly retail for any additional sets.
So, unless I can find another wheel supplier, it appears that we are done.
Sorry guys.

Unless I find a new dealer, it's probably not worth having me try to order them for you. I'm going to make a few calls when I get time (as soon as I figure out who else to work with, I'll probably try AFS).
