My loss – your gain…..

I’ve got a 92 Z-28 that I have lost interest in, and want out of my life (and garage). It would be a great track car / autocross car, with a little work. Here are the highlights:

92 Z-28 Hardtop Car – 135k on the odo. The paint (teal) is shot, but there is no rust on the car. Glastek Fiberglass Cowl hood (bolt on). Expected dents and dings, but no major bodywork needed.

Engine .020 over 350 – 10.6 – 1 CR, Splayed main caps, steel crank and rods, KB pistons, Aluminum L98 heads, CC-305 cam and SS roller rockers. Holley Stealth Ram intake w/ 52 mm TB, SLP Headers and Cat-back (no cats) Exhaust. I bought the long block from Trackbird, so if there are any questions I can’t answer – he can. (less than 1,500 miles – maybe less than 1,000 – can’t remember the odo when it went in)

T-56 Conversion – Centerforce DF clutch, Pro 5.0 shifter, Spohn Crossmember and TA. (not sure of the total miles, but the gearbox was gone through before installation by Dan Popp of McClusky Chevrolet in Cincinnati)

Rebuilt rearend – 3.73 Motive Gears, Eaton Posi, Moser Axles, Summit Aluminum Cover, Ratech install parts w/ solid pinion spacer (less than 200 miles)

Chassis – Spohn subframe connectors (weld in), Eibach springs, KYB shocks, all new steering parts from spindle to spindle (except Pitman arm)

The engine needs tuned for the cam / intake – I have a number of items from Craig Moates that will be available separately to whoever buys the car. Some of the additional items available are:

Laptop w/ scanning, emulator, and prom burning tools
New C4-HD front brake setup from Ed Miller
Corbeau Seats and brackets (almost new – still in box)
Adjustable LCA’s and Panhard rod – needs new rod ends.
1LE – a/c delete boxes (2) and air pump replacement pulley

I figure I’ve got over $15k into the car plus however many hours (way too many). I’m going to ask $7k OBO for the car (only) and see where that gets me. I’m not going to part out the car of sell any of the extra parts until the car is sold. If anyone has any interest, please PM me or e-mail me at mhalter@columbus.rr.com .

Thanks,

Mike

I think this one has Kevin's name all over it. beerchug.gif

But I'm interested in an AC delete box, for the right price!
trackbird
Half of it was mine (engine, sway bars and I forget what, if anything else). I'd like to have it back, but I'd be divorced (or so I was informed as I mentioned seeing the ad).

Forgot about the sway bars - what sizes were they again?
trackbird
35/25, it's a Suspension Techniques kit.

Price cut - $6,500 OBO

I'm still interested in one of the AC delete boxes.

Jules, he bought them new from me. I used one for about 3 days, pulled them and sold them to him. They've been in a box for a while now and are "as new".

Thanks Kev, looking for a set for my '91 Formula.

And the brackets are brand new (I exchanged the 4th gen for 3rd gen brackets for him). beerchug.gif

I fear that the car may be worth more as parts, than as the whole - I just don't have the space or time to deconstruct it....

Of course if I ever feel the need to cut it into tiny pieces, I know someone that has practical experience in that arena. tongue.gif

Going home to charge the batteries for the cordless sawzall right now.....(just in case huh.gif ).

I'm starting to consider demodding mine and using the cash to buy yours (selling my brakes, shocks, springs, sway bars, ported TB, and a long list of other stuff). I'd like to have my engine back, being wrapped in a 1992 Z28 is just a bonus.

I haven't sold the car yet, so I'm hanging onto the parts until it's gone.

This is a perfect project for an American Iron car.
350/T56!
Maybe sub the computer for a MegaSquirt, add cage/safety stuff, 17x9 wheels/Toyos.
Badda bing badda boom.

Jeff, you're really right about that. I built the engine (had a machine shop do the work, but I selected the parts for it) and it's a splayed main cap motor, ZZ3 steel crank, balanced, torque plate honed, deck plugs, 0 decked, etc (I could go on). It was thoroughly and properly done and built from a sub 5k mile "warranty motor" block (tossed the rest) from GM (piston slap). So, it was seasoned, but not even dirty yet.

With the current setup and a proper tune, what kind of power would you expect from it?

It's probably limited by the heads flow potential (ZZ3/ZZ4 heads with Manley race flow valves, skim cut to make sure they were true and 3 angle valve job, etc) to something in the mid to upper 300 (375-ish?) hp. I might be surprised and it may do that at the wheels, but I'd rather guess low. It's truly at 10.6:1 (12cc dished piston, 0 decked, 58cc combustion chamber, that actually seem to measure closer to 56 in real life, then skim cut, it might be a bit over 10.6:1) and the cam is a 220/230 .525 (Crane Compu Cam, those are the specs as I remember, he bought that cam, I was going to use a "street roller" solid roller, but a real small one in it).

The heads (stock) flow about 208 cfm at .600 and about 200 cfm at .500 (as I remember), I put undercut valves in these which should help low lift (area under the curve) and max lift to some extent. I'm not expecting "big things", but it helps. So, you'll be head limited, but with a decent cam (such as what's in it) and that intake, it has potential to make power. It has K-motion K750 (as I remember) springs in it, I think he put Comp Pro Magnum roller rockers on it, ARP main studs, Lunati Street Race rods, Clevite bearings, a Street Damper, all ARP hardware, etc. It was built as a nice street motor that could play at the track. It should live a long and healty life at 400-450 hp, maybe a bit more.

What suspension work does this car have? DOes it run? What brakes? Roll bar? Seats and belts?

David,

The car basically has all new suspension pieces:

New Moog steering parts from spindle to spindle, ball joints, etc
Eibach Springs + KYB struts / shocks
Suspension Techniques Sway Bars (35/25)
Spohn TA and SFC's

The only thing I haven't done yet is change out the LCA's and Panhard, but I have them in my garage (adjustable - need rod ends).

The car is a street car, so the stock interior is still in it - no cage. I have a set of Corbeau seats (not race seats) that can go in it. Stock brakes are still on it, but I have a set of C4-HD fronts in the garage as well.

The car runs and drives fine - just needs the computer tuned for the cam / intake (I have the tools). Around town the ECM keeps the A/F in check, it just goes rich under PE. I was working on the VE and Spark maps to get them dialed in, before I put it into storage for the winter. Once they are done I can start on tuning PE.

Any other questions - just let me know.

Thx.

Would this be a good trackday car for a novice(me)?I am NOT a total novice I have done one track day in a rental car,LMAO what a blast, all of the guys I go with are instructors in VERY fast BMW's so they will not let me get in over my head, I have had very fast cars and bikes, this car looks like a good starting point.

Does it have rear disc brakes?

What wheels and tires are on the car?

Please send pics and e mail me directly
Or call me 251-605-7112

Yes, it's a factory disk brake 10 bolt.

Right now it has the stock Z28 wheels with Goodyear Eagle HP's. I do have some 85-87 IROC's available.

E-mail sent w/ pics.

thx.
CrazyHawaiian
Good luck with the sale. The motor in there sounds very very similar to a motor I had planned to build for my 89 IROC-Z, only difference was the cam.

So now that Kevin claims the car as his, does this mean the A/C delete box is up for grabs?

I'm confused, just got an e-mail back from David stating these were Hunsacker seats. ???? I scrolled up here and it was posted they were Corbeaus.
trackbird
David? His name is Mike. They are Corbeau TRS wides. I know, I bought them new and sold them to him (and he lives 2 miles from me, I know him well). I think you've got the wrong e-mail address or got some wires crossed.

Well, I have a loaner trailer lined up and I have a car and I own a truck. So, there is a good possibility that it will be attending, but, I'm not sure how sorted the engine will be and if I'll be ready to run it or not.
