I've had requests for a 17x11/ZR1 wheel GP. So, I made some calls and sent a fax and am waiting to hear back on pricing for a group buy on 4 17x11's, or 4 17x9.5's or a set of two of each (meaning, we need to sell 5 sets of any of the 3 sizes). I hope to be able to get them in silver (stock looking), black or grey/charcoal. It looks like we'll need at least 5 buyers to get a deal (but I'll know for sure when I hear back from them). So, it's in the works and if anyone is interested, post and I'll see if we have the needed interest.

Paid:

Rob (2 sets)
Sean
Bock
JR Felton
Russ
Chris Meier
Neil
Rich Johnston

I'd likely be in for a set of 17x11 50mm's myself, if the price is right (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . The best I came up with recently from a sponsor on another board was $429 + shipping.

IF you can beat $430 a set, im definately in, especially if you can get the polished ones with the deep center bore( i don't think any of the knock-off companies make these anymore).

Hmmm... maybe. I already have a set of AFS's, but if the weight savings were there and the price was fair...

John @ CCW gave me a tour of their facility a couple of years ago, but I don't particularly care for the designs (nor the later models) for what they cost. I like the weight, though!

Dam*, just bought some a month ago- might go in for a second set for rain tires though if the price is really good, but it would have to be REALLY good.

you can always do like i did... buy the painted, strip the paint and polish them.
used aircraft remover for stripping paint/clear... then started wet sanding, then polishing.
looks nice.

I'm on the phone again now.

Chris says I should have an e-mail in about an hour (I can't check it until after work tonight).

I'll call him again tomorrow and this time I'll leave my fax hooked up and let him fax it to me. Maybe he didn't hear my e-mail address correctly (I was on a cell phone with "fair" coverage at the time).

don't you just hate it when you have to work this hard trying to give somebody else your money?

Ok, I got a fax today, but I need to get everyone's zip codes and cities for them to quote me shipping (and I have to get the price for 4 17x11's instead of mixed pairs of 11 and 9.5's).

Get me your zip codes/cities and I'll try it again.

Thanks guys.

This is NOT a firm expression of interest, just exploring, but I'd like to get pricing for 4 17x9.5 OR 4 17x11 shipped to 40383.

Silver or brakedust/gunmetal grey would be OK, whichever is cheaper.

Some more noncommittal interest here....

Could I get a price for 4 17x11s in whatever finish is cheapest with a 50mm offset to zip code 72764?

Two questions....

1) What do these things weigh?
2) What is their load rating?

Sorry if I missed this information somewhere.

Sure.

And.

1) I think they are about 26 lbs, but I don't have that officially.
2) Off the top of my head, 1440 lbs (but again, not official).

Ok, I got a fax back today. Here's the info we've all been waiting for.....

I asked for GP prices for 3 sets and for 5 sets. I only got one set of prices back. So, if we have enough buyers, I'll try to push for a better discount, I'm guessing it can be done.

First, the "notes".

Black wheels are on the way (guessing by boat), should be here in about 3 weeks. Gunmetal wheels are scheduled to be in stock in 2 weeks. They may be discontinuing the gunmetal, so order any spares now.

Black, Silver and Gunmetal

17x9.5 = 105 ea (420)
17x11 = 110 ea (440)

Chrome

17x9.5 = 148 ea (592)
17x11 = 152 ea (608)

Polished

17x9.5 = 113 ea (448)
17x11 - 116 ea (464)

Shipping per wheel (by zip code)

43119 = 15 ea
40220 = 15 ea
32669 = 11 ea
03051 = 19 ea
08822 = 15 ea
40383 = 16 ea

I see that we didn't get shipping rates to all locations. Just find one close to you, or I'll have to ask them for a total when we order (if we order?). I sent him the list, but he missed a few.

I'll see if I can get a quote, but based on the others, I'm guessing about $16 a wheel (looking at area and shipping charts and it's $15-16 to KY and $19 to the New England area). Just a guess based on doing lots of shipping of stuff over the years.

As a side note, to save money, I'll ask that you mail me a money order. If you wish to use Paypal, please add 3.5% (I think that's the right number, it's more than 3%) to cover fees. I'll take either one, but to save cash, money orders will be fine. Once we get a final talley, I'll pm my mailing address and paypal info to everyone on the list (or PM me).

But the price is pretty darn good, so I'll get 4 if that is the only way they will ship them.

Why can't you folks do this sort of thing in the winter?? When I have $$$?

Ugh, I'm staring down the barrel of a set of A6s and just racing costs in general. I could really use a set for practice. Must...resist...purchase...debt (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/whip.gif)

I've more or less decided to get 4, Silver, 17x11, 50mm. Then I can use two for street tires (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Let us know when and where to send the dough.

Why can't you folks do this sort of thing in the winter?? When I have $$$?

Ugh, I'm staring down the barrel of a set of A6s and just racing costs in general. I could really use a set for practice. Must...resist...purchase...debt (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/whip.gif)

It's only money Brian. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I was going to wait but that darned Kevin starts selling C5 bracket again. Low and behold I need new street wheels in addition to the 17x11's I wanted this winter. Now thanks to Kevin I'm buying C5 brakes, 17x11's, 17x9.5's, and a fender roller. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Kevin you want to set an official end date for this? I do have a post on my local board I think a couple of people were somewhat interested.

I guess we'll make it Sunday, August 13th. (unless anyone wants to be sooner). That way, people can send the checks and I'll get everything ordered as soon as everything comes in. That gives people another payday.

What brand are these? Just wondering how they compare weight and quality wise to AFS. Price is excellent!

I think I'd want 36mm. I have 7 5/8" backspace custom wheels now (about the same, right?). I'd like to avoid using spacers in the front if possible. The 50mm ones will work OK though if they don't make the 36mm ones.

Black shipped to 21784.

Brian, here's what Jon A did to make 17x11's in 36mm offset fit an LT1 Camaro:

http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?sho...c=1179&st=0 However his front brakes make the wheels stick out a tad bit more.

They are from OE wheels, weight, strength and finish seems to be just as good as AFS. I know of a few sets that have been on autocross cars with no issues.

Well shoot, seems like more than I've ever had to do to make mine fit. I just rolled the rear fender lips and use a spacer in the rear. The fronts just fit with no problems. Will have to look into this more...

Make it a track-only car and then you won't need the x-tra set of street wheels! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) FYI. I know someone who rents the fender roller for $60 with heat gun if you don't feel like spending the $250-300 to buy one. Well...gotta jump in the truck and head to Summit Point! I almost posted our deal on a couple lists, then I thought I'd better check with you first before I made a blunder.

Do you want to keep this deal in-house, or is it OK to let other F-buds know about it?

Let them know. If we can make the order "worth it", we will. I'm ok with that......

If it's too much to credit card (I have many bank accounts and can use several debit cards with "good" limits), I'll just fire them off a cashiers check or something. We'll get it done.

At the very least they're different finishes and center caps. Whether they come from the same mold I don't know. Pretty much all the ZR1 knockoffs, including AFS, are made in China now. I've never heard of an issue using any kind of ZR1 knock-offs. I have seen wheels from OE in person before and they are nicely done.

No wait on polished (from what their fax said). I was waiting for a total wheel count and then going to push for a better deal. Worst case, I mail everyone a check back for a few bucks (whatever the difference is). I can see what they quote me for the current order size. I'll try to get a fax out to them shortly.

Wow what a deal..... for these prices I think I'm going to jump on the opportunity.

Trackbird, do you know if black chrome is an option? Just curious. I believe I want to get a set of 4 17x11 50mm either Gunmetal, or Chrome if they don't have any more gunmetal

They didn't mention a black chrome option. They said they "might" discontinue the gunmetal, so for now, it should be ok to order.

The price is good, hard to beat, but I don't like the made in China deal. One of my trailer tires essentially fell apart (made in China). I'm sticking to OEM or CCW wheels.

I know of one AV8SS car who's running these exact wheels. I know of several autocross cars running these wheels and I met an open track guy with a C4 who's been beating the crap out of these same wheels.

Besides, we've seen OEM wheels fail too.....

I'm sort of on the fence. Please let us know when the deadline is for getting orders in, so that I can make a final decision yay or nay when time is about to run out. Thanks for organizing!

Not to butt in over Kevin, but last report I had was that he was trying to bring this together as of today (Aug 13). Since we have had significant interest, perhaps he will extend it a little bit.

Maybe we can begin the ordering/shipping process and the vendor will honor their pricing for an extended period. Just a wandering thought. don't want to make more work for Kevin.

I think there is a difference between ZR1 replicas made in China and trailer wheels or HF tools. There are plenty of people running the ZR1 replicas hard without any issues. Although I would certainly inspect them like any wheel. I've heard of cracked CCW's too. Sometimes that happens when you're trying to make them as light as possible. One guy had oem corvette saw blades crack on a street car. And then there are the 10-spoke SS wheels that have cracked. No matter who makes your race wheels they should be inspected. I try to buy USA products all the time, almost all my tools are, but CCW's are out of my price range as well as GM 17x11's.

That's up to you guys. I picked today as the deadline because it will probably take 1-2 weeks for everyones payments to arrive and then I have to order the wheels and make payment arrangements with them. That could mean delivery will be 3+ weeks from today (depending on how things go). I don't want to hold anyone up, but you are the ones waiting on the wheels (I'm not sure if I'm buying a set or not right now, I've got several other projects going and I want to get them done first).

On the other hand, if someone says "I'm in" tomorrow, we probably have time to get their order done. So, I can be a little flexible, but only to a point.

I'm waiting on a fax back with shipping for a few people and to see if I can get a better price for you since we have plenty of wheels ordered now. If so, I'll issue checks for the difference to those who paid already.

Kevin, I wonder if it would be possible to make two (or more) orders without creating a monster.

I know I would like to get my order as soon as is reasonably possible... and before the vendor changes their mind on our low low Walmart prices (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

thanks

Anything's possible. I'd just have to hold 3 orders for the second "batch" (unless I can work something out with them).

Or, if 3 more people want in, I know we can get these prices and we can do a second smaller order. I'm hoping to get a better deal since this is a large order, but we could probably do a second smaller batch of 3 or more if we get the extra orders. That might work best.

I'm flexible.

I also started a paid list in the first post.

What's your zip code? We'll try to figure out shipping (I'm waiting on a fax with more shipping quotes) and we'll go from there. I'll try to get with everyone tonight (assuming I get a fax).

Ok. We're going to close things with the current orders. If someone wants in and can get payment to me before I get all the payments from those on the list, we'll put you in. If not, I'll either refund your cash or put you on a standby list for a second order (your choice).

Ok, the latest round of shipping quotes.

66502 $19 ea
59484 $28 ea
02769 $20 ea
23430 $16 ea
21784 $15 ea
47906 $15 ea
40383 $16 ea

No word on the Z06 wheels yet Neil. I'll find out when I talk to them next. I know they are out of the 10.5 wide wheels but they do have the 9.5's in stock. He just didn't give me a price and it wasn't on the fax today.

Ok let me know when you find out. I would want a set of 10.5s so if they are out of stock find out when they expect more, I can wait if the price is right and they can get black with no rivets.
