Any time you feel like testing out that "learning ability" on a new track, come on over to No Problem Raceway. It's just SE of baton Rouge, or about 6-7 hours from you. There are regular track days with 20 minute sessions for $115 for the whole day, usually on Sundays.

I'd love to!

I know some racers who have played out there and they speak highly of the place. Unfortunately it is a little far for the moment and I have access to some closer places and need the shake down time (and not windshield-of-the-truck time! Name's Stan, but steve is close (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) . Actually Stan is my nickname, Austin is my real name.
2100 seems to be in line with this tube frame only car.
He is running an Aluminum LSX with C5 corners, shortened tq tube, and diff. He doesn't have a full body, but has some aluminum. The LSX is about 100 lbs lighter than a gen 1. The independent rear might be similar in mass. You have the glass body and I have no idea how much it weights. His is 1980 lbs.

Sorry Stan!!

I've seen that car on the Net before. It's Kinsler's kid if I'm not mistaken. Not sure what HP he has but those are some REALLY short control arms. I'd love to run IRS, but at the power/grip I have it'd be iffy and for trans-am/GT1 it is verbotten anyway. Killer fabwork on that car and I'd love to run with him sometime. Wonder what kind of power he has...any ideas? Yeah, Kinsler kid. About 21 years old and still in college. Built it in one year. Made me very jealous. Many parts of the fabrication were very impressive. The only thing I can really knock him on is not using a tubing bender more. He actually was a member here and sold his 4th gen 1LE on this forum to someone in Texas to fund this project…. It wasn’t you was it?!?

Last year he had a stock Zo6 motor with the injection stacks, so that puts him at maybe 425 HP or so. Over the winter he bought a stroker 427, can’t remember if it was based off of the LS1 or LS2 block, but it should be nasty. I’m guessing about 600 HP. I haven’t talked to him in a while to see how everything went. He was developing a new set of stacks to go with it.

So more grip requires longer arms is what you are saying? He’s only ran street tires that I know of so far. Took me for a ride down a couple local freeways… hang on for dear life.

I'd like to build something like yours or his someday.

Thanks for the additional info...wow, 600hp @ 2000lbs in that thing would be a terror! I didn't buy his 1LE, mine are both FStock 3rd gens (insert weak-nut tpi joke here! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ).

Don't get me wrong, I'm speaking in generalities. It is POSSIBLE to get more grip with a stock arm (of course), but the longer the arm the better. They don't run such positive offset wheels for brake cooling! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif)

The tires on his car aren't streets, they are r-compound kumhos. Granted, they aren't 710s, but they aren't streets either.

Interesting you mention building a car like mine, several folks have mentioned it recently. Frank (helping me build, lives up the street, been racing buddies for a looooong time, awesome welder/fabricator) and I took a good look this past Saturday at making a copy of my car for him. Mine uses all circle-track parts (ever priced a corner on a riley or a rocketsports???) and really wouldnt be all that hard to duplicate. Derhaag still makes bodies for the 4th gen t/a+gt1 cars or you could convert it to c5 or c6 I would imagine.

Probably more of a wet dream than anything else. My wife-to-be will probably prevent it from ever happening.

It has to be expensive and time consuming to make something like this, but then think about how much time we spending making something work around the constraints of the existing car. Or how much time and money we spend to make the existing car light. To have a clean slate to make things the way you want would be nice.

Why the positive offset wheels? Wouldn’t that make it harder to have long arms? I just assumed that long arms would reduce the change in IC and somehow make the system more stable.

Positive offset is my front wheels. 12" wide and only 2" on the face side and 10" backspace. That way the control arms can be nice and long.

And it is INCREDIBLY nice to be able to get to everything fairly simply. I've worked on plenty of production based cars-that-are-raced and as you mention, a lot of it is huge PITA to work around. Additionally by the time you are done, you still have a lot of limitations. Sure it isnt cheap nor is it done in a few weekends, but for less than the cost of a used z06 I'll have a car that will destroy a whole ton of cars (p-cars, f-cars, vette, viper, etc) and it is based on a Coleman catalog.

HA! I always liked the olds bodystyles also but my favorites were the lt1 4th gens and the DeKon Monzas. I actually had two sets of DeKon bodywork when I bought this project and sold them both to help pay for it. For gt1, there is a TON of legal bodies. For Chev it is all gens of camaros, monzas, 63+ vettes, lumina, monte carlo and beretta. Buicks can be regals or somersets, and Olds can be Ciera, Cutlass, toronado and aurora (LOVED the aurora IMSA GTS cars!!!). There there is the firebirds, grand-prixs and fieros. Not all are T/A legal, but they can all run scca regionals and nationals.

I'm just crossing my fingers that T/A makes a comeback.
