Saw this over on Solo Matters. Ron and Sonya Ver Mulm's 2nd Gen Camaro has been rebuilt to the rules of E Modified:

Then the Ver Mulms put a LS engine in it before they were allowed, hence the move to E Mod. Since the Ver Mulms have been competing against the likes of the Kiesel Sprite and Brueck Jeep required he step up the game. Soo, the pictures show the complete rebuild at about 3/4 scale (shortened and narrowed). It's built to the letter of the rules. Bad ass.
Soo, the pictures show the complete rebuild at about 3/4 scale (shortened and narrowed). It doesn't look that small. 2nd gen wheel base is 108 stock and his is 102", but they say "13" shorter" so did he reduce overhangs? I could see the width reduction of 4" if the tires stuck out a lot before. It looks wider than a stock 2nd gen but not much. The only thing that looks the same is the color, kinda. Yep, that's the old chassis. I think it was an old IROC series car, or Trans Am. The tubing may look big, but remember, he has to have a 2600# minimum. I'm sure there's lead in there somewhere, so the cage/chassis probably helps attain that minimum.
I suspect it may ride at that height. I believe the front tires are a little smaller than the rears, so there's going to be some gap there. It looks to be sitting pretty level. |

Do most people put roll cages in Prepared cars to stiffen them up and meet minimum weight? I have never seen a Prepared car go around a track just parking lots. To me it seems like a waste unless you are gonna track it as well. To clarify I'am talking about these over the top builds. Not prepared cars in general.

Roll cages do help stiffen up a unibody chassis a lot. Carefully thought out, and you also have convenient places to mount suspension parts, too. Our car has a pretty minimal 6-point in it. It really helps. We have a 92 Camaro that's been run a long time in F Stock, and it shows the results; cracks in the roof at the junction of the B-pillar.
It's fairly common in C Prepared, but I have seen several examples of other Prepared class cars that have no cage. |

I think it's higher because he's running a 406 cu. in. V8.
But yeah, neither am I. |

From what I've seen in at Solo events in four different regions, most of the uni-body and Fox Mustangs take full advantage of the roll cage option in CP just as you stated. The FFR Cobras and Corvette Z06's do not unless they are track cars. Most of the BMW's, convertibles, and other Prepared vehicles usually have a roll bar installed as a mounting point for their 5- or 6- point racing harness. (Can't imagine having to climb through a roll cage for daily driving.) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ...he has to have a 2600# minimum.. I'm not all that familiar with EM rules... but shouldn't his minimum weight be closer to 1800-1900lbs? The EM rules for unlimited V8's is 1900 LB. He gets to add an additional 50 LB for the modified tub, but can subtract 50 LB if less than 51% of the vehicle's weight is on the rear tires for a RWD. I suspect the 2600 LB minimum is a carry over from a club racing class, not a Solo requirement. |

That car would be a hoot at 2600#, I can't imagine how much fun it would be at 1900!!!
